Comic Book Review: Deathstroke Annual #2 - DC Comics (2016)

"The Balkan"

Written by Phil Hester
Art by Mirko Colak & Roberto Viacava
Colors by Michael Spicer

Deathstroke has been hired to do what he does better than anyone else: assassinate.  In a land where everything is based on greed and power, it can be tough for Deathstroke to take out his target(s).

Deathstroke Annual #2 starts one way and changes directions but it all happens so seamlessly.  Iam surprised all of this happened in the confines of one comic book.  This is a continuation from Deathstroke #20, but I can tell you that I haven't been following the series and I had no trouble figuring out what was going on.  I thoroughly enjoyed the pace of this comic book and the twists and turns were absolutely incredible.  Phil Hester concocted an amazing story that kept me guessing and left me surprised.

I was excited when I heard Phil Hester was writing this issue as he is one of my favorite people in the comic book business.  I've long been a fan of his artwork(I even bought an original piece from him) and his work as a writer is phenomenal.  I was even fortunate enough to be able to interview Hester on our podcast and you can listen to it here.

The art in Deathstroke Annual #2 is wonderful as well.  Multiple artists can sometime be distracting but in the case of this comic book it totally works.  Colak and Viacava did astounding work and the colors from Michael Spicer gave the book a remarkable look.  The action looked great and panel after panel, the story flowed well.

This is a great book and it is available now.  Again, this is a book you can pick up and enjoy.  There is backstory but it is explained within the story so you won't be lost trying to read it.
