The Mandalorian: Chapter One (Spoiler Free) Review

The Mandalorian: Chapter One

Director: Dave Filoni

Writers: Jon Favreau (Creator)

Starring: Pedro Pascal, Omid Abtahi, Mark Boone Junior

The moment has arrived Disney+ is here! Which means… The Mandalorian is here for our viewing pleasure! Or well an episode is, sorry binge watchers we’re going to have to go at this one episode at a time. You could wait to binge, but honestly DON’T! This 40-minute show will give you those warm Star Wars sensations we all love with a cliffhanger that will make your jaw drop! I’m not using a figure of speech here guys, my jaw literally dropped!

Director Dave Filoni and Writer/Creator Jon Favreau do a wonderful job of building this small part of the Star Wars universe so that the whole show feels familiar and new all at the same time. The visuals and overall vibe of the show make it feel like you are watching one of the movies while at the same time introducing new characters and worlds to sink our teeth into.

The only (sort of) spoiler I’m going to put in here… that honestly isn’t really a spoiler, but don’t be overly excited for an opening crawl, sorry friends. While I love the crawl too, these episodes are around 40 minutes and time is too precious for the crawl. Once the episode gets going though, you don’t even notice it missing so I’m cool with its absenteeism. We still get some cool Star Wars editing tricks and overall vibes throughout, including a little comedy at the poor droids expense.

Even though this episode had a lot of good moments in the short amount of time, it’s really all about the ending. I’m sure no one saw it coming and thanks to that massive cliffhanger, I’m going to be chomping at the bit to see what comes next! The second episode will be out Friday, November 15th. And now we wait.

If you have watched the episode, what did you think? Let me know in the comments below.

Just so everyone is aware, I’m going to include the episode release dates:

Episode 1: Tuesday, November 12th (like seriously watch it already)
Episode 2: Friday, November 15th
Episode 3: Friday, November 22nd
Episode 4: Friday, November 29th
Episode 5: Friday, December 6th
Episode 6: Friday, December 13th
Episode 7: Wednesday, December 18th (psst this is the week The Rise of Skywalker comes out)
Episode 8: Friday, December 27th

2019 Phoenix Fan Fusion

Image result for phoenix fan fusion

Prepare yourself Phoenix! Fan Fusion is coming! Thousands of fanatics from all walks of life are about to invade the streets of downtown in hopes to mingle and celebrate all things fandom. With a little over a week to go from this year Phoenix Fan Fusion, taking place May 23-26, final preparations are taking place.  From artists to actors and cosplayers to gamers, you are pretty much guaranteed to see something that will put a smile on your face.

Every year this event seems to get bigger than the previous year with different big names actors brought in for meet and greets/photo ops along with the brilliant minds behind our favorite comic books and stories, the four-day event always has something going on for everyone.  This years biggest actors include Jeff Goldblum, Nikolaj Coster-Waldau, Summer Glau, John Barrowman, Catherine Tate, Elijah Wood, Matthew Lewis and many more. If the comics are more your speed, don’t you worry, they’ve got some pretty great artists coming as well like Neal Adams, Kevin Eastman, Joe Staton, Joel Gomez, Seanan McGuire, James C. Mulligan, Dennis O’Neil… honestly the list just keeps going. The great thing with the artists though, most of them have tables on the exhibitor floor, so if you aren’t able to make it to a panel to see them, they are usually pretty accessible at their tables. Side note, if you have a favorite comic or print from any of them, bring it! They will most likely sign it for you and usually will have a pretty decent conversation with you at the same time.

Along with appearances, there are also panels. SO MANY PANELS!!! There is pretty much a panel for everything… like almost everything. Make sure you check out the schedule to see if there are any workshops or celebrity panels you want to attend and set a reminder to make sure you don’t miss it. The panels are a great opportunity for fans to ask questions and learn new things, also they are a great chance to sit down for an hour or so and relax. To top it off, panels are also a great way to meet other fans who maybe in the same fandoms as you, which honestly is one of the best parts of these cons.

Also, don't be afraid to venture outside of the con. Many restaurants and stores have sales and specials to go along with the Con. Plus, there are usually food trucks and possibly local breweries and other drink specials.

It wouldn’t be fair to not issue a couple warnings for this event as well. Sounds scary right, but be prepared. Like actually be prepared. This event is huge! So bring those walking shoes because you are going to be using them! Also, hydration! It’s very important everyone. We are in a desert and this event has the unbelievable habit of landing on one of the hottest weekends of the year. Be patient, there are going to be lines. Take the opportunity to strike up a conversation or maybe post some of those pictures you've been taking, it will honestly make it feel like the line is moving faster.

Last, but not least, have fun. Everyone is here to have a good time and for the most part everyone acts that way. This very large group of people might very well be the nicest mob of people you will ever encounter. So if you see some thing you like, stop and talk about it.  If it’s something at a booth for sale, talk to the artist/maker. They might even have something else you might like more. If you see a cosplay you think is great, let them know. Most will even take pictures with you, but remember, Cosplay is not consent! On that note, see you all next week!
