MODOK Assassin - Issue 5 - Comic Book Review - Marvel

MODOK Assassin - #5 - Marvel
Written By: Christopher Yost
Art By: Pinna, Pallot & Rosenberg

Lady Thor is laying unconscious, presumably dead, while MODOK continues the fight against Mordo, Clea and the Mindless Ones. While arguing and fighting we see what untapped skills MODOK has been withholding as he summons his own army to help combat the Mindless Ones. Lady Thor awakens and sentences Mordo to death but Mordo is not so easily defeated. One final battle rages between Lady Thor, MODOK, Mordo and Clea until the Thors claim Lady Thor back to their ranks and MODOK claims his new role and title in Killville.

This final issue ties everything up nicely and provides just as much murder and mayhem the previous issues all provided. MODOK cuts up bodies, blows up faces and is just as snarky as always. Such a great final issue in this miniseries. Even the final page is a single splash page of awesomeness. Once they make this a trade paperback if you haven’t kept up with the single issues I’d recommend picking that up.

The final reveal of Lady Thor’s real name and watching MODOK smile was so cheesy it was fantastic. There’s not a lot I felt could’ve been better because this series set out with one tone and idea and delivered on it nicely. It puts on zero fronts and embraces the idea and concepts of a city called Killville and what type of daily activities would occur in a city like this. Good times. Great characters. Incredible action sequences and violent art that is eye candy for days.

MODOK Assassin - Issue 4 - Comic Book Review - Marvel

MODOK Assassin - #4 - Marvel
Written By: Christopher Yost
Art By: Pinna, Pallot & Rosenberg

Starting 8 years in the past we see Doom, Valeria, the Thors and Doctor Strange coming to Killville to meet Baron Mordo, Clea and MODOK to discuss the purpose of Killville, kinda. Cut to present, we see the Mindless Ones laying death to everything as they are known to do. MODOK, Lady Thor, Sabertooth, Viper, Doctor Octopus and the Shroud are all trying to escape the brutality of the Mindless Ones. Things don’t always go as planned and MODOK and Lady Thor find themselves back at odds with the assassins and fleeing for their lives. Doctor Strange and Beta Ray Bill are starting to realize that Lady Thor is in Killville but it might be too late as Task Master, Baron Mordo, Clea and the Mindless Ones are on the tails of MODOK and Lady Thor.

A decent blending of story, character development and action this episode was a fun time. Again, reading all these characters interacting with each other was so entertaining. They try to get along but are such terrible individuals they can’t help themselves and they turn on each other in quick moments making the story escalate further and further into chaos. There’s a linear story developing through the chaos and it’s a treat to read.

I was so happy to see Baron Mordo releasing the Mindless Ones into Killville. These literal creatures of pure destruction running rampant in a town designed for killing was spectacular. I couldn’t stop smiling. I was so happy seeing these monsters in action. I am enjoying this series so much.

MODOK Assassin - Issue 3 - Comic Book Review - Marvel

MODOK Assassin - #3 - Marvel

MODOK and Lady Thor are entrenched in battle with assassins and it’s one unique attack after another and explosions galore. We see MODOKs power on full display as he defends himself and Lady Thor, his love interest. We cut to Doomgard briefly where we see Beta Ray Bill talking with Doctor Strange about the Thor’s needing the good Doctors help locating Lady Thor because Science cannot locate her and they can’t sense her anymore.

This issue is non stop action, minus one page on Doomgard. It’s attack after explosion after attack. The art work is so colorful and spectacular that this issue is candy for your eyes. The story is minimal which is fine because the story takes place in Killville. I don’t need a lot of story as long as what story is present is entertaining, which it is.

I was impressed with how many popular characters take residence in Killville. It was fun to see them all attacking MODOK and Lady Thor in their own unique and strategic way. The surprise ending had me smiling and saying out loud, “Yesssssss” and I’m super pumped to read the next issue. Such a delightful issue with so much action and incredible art.

MODOK Assassin - Issue 2 - Comic Book Review - Marvel

MODOK Assassin - #2 - Marvel
Written By: Christopher Yost
Art By: Pinna, Pallot, Tadeo & Rosenberg

The Thor’s are deep in battle in "Monarchy of M" when Lady Thor takes off to investigate Killville. Upon waking up from a sudden attack, MODOK is trying to reason with Lady Thor who is convinced he’s the reason she fell from the sky. From there we jump to a morgue where the “Triad of the Assassins Guild” is investigating the death of Bullseye and discussing the consequences MODOK must face for his actions. And then a cut to Griffith Park, the Dark Domain of Baron Mordo, where Clea and Mordo are discussing the news that MODOK is battling a Thor.

This issue felt more story driven as we learn about the characters who reside in Killville and the roles they play in the day to day happenings. There’s still plenty of action between MODOK and Lady Thor but it’s somewhat restrained as MODOK is attempting to reason with Lady Thor instead of annihilating her.

I enjoyed seeing Clea and Mordo more than any other character in this issue. There were plenty of characters mentioned in this issue as the Assassins Guild is looking over their roster but seeing the floating fortress of Mordo was fun. Also, knowing two pivotal characters from Doctor Strange is always a bonus for me. I’m enjoying this series more than I thought and I’m looking forward to the next issue and I’m hoping for way more action.
