Supernatural: Season 12 Episode 3 “The Foundry” Review

Supernatural: Season 12 Episode 3 “The Foundry”

Director: Robert Singer

Writer: Robert Berens

Staring: Jared Padalecki, Jensen Ackles, Misha Collins, Mark Sheppard, Ruth Connell, Samantha Smith, Rick Springfield

Synopsis: Dean, Castiel and Mary  have a lead on Sam and set out to rescue hime. Dean is uncomfortable putting Mary in danger, but she insists on going. Meanwhile, Crowley is tipped off that Lucifer has take over the body of rock star Vince Vicente.

My Thoughts: Look at that, it’s the Supernatural we all fell in love with! This episode made it so easy to feel like we were watching an episode from one of the earlier seasons. The only difference now is Mary is the (well sorta) new hunter joining the boys on a hunt, rather than the boys being new and following in their fathers footsteps. Plus, I love episodes with ghosts! While they aren’t the craziest of episodes, there is always something a little different about each one.

Mary reminds me a lot of Jo from a couple seasons ago, just older and you know motherly.  She is the one that found the case, convinced Sam and Dean to go on the hunt and does some soul searching while she is there. The boys get caught up in what they believe that they miss some of the clues, but Mary discovers that something does not fit with what the boys are focusing on. Even though she sorta falls under the damsel in distress, it’s her discovery that leads Sam and Dean to destroying the ghost that is killing people. One of the best parts of the main fight is when Mary is possessed and you see Dean and Sam struggle with that situation, very entertaining.

The Winchesters aren’t the only ones that are busy though, Crowley and Castiel are working together, oddly enough, to find Lucifer. Yes, that’s right, Crowley and Cass are on a hunt of their own. While I find it weird that Dean would just let Cass leave on his own to hunt down the likes of Lucifer, it is a fun dynamic to see these two work together. I don’t want it to happen for a whole season, but every once in a while is nice.  Plus, we can’t leave out Rowena. I mean she did handle Lucifer.  It’s a temporary fix, but it got the job done for now. Sadly, I wont be surprised if Lucifer kills her here pretty soon.

Over all, the episodes so far have me thinking Mary has to feel so out of place. I didn’t expect her to separate from the boys this early, but I am happy that some of the plot points that have been bothering me were finally vocalized. It is so easy for all of us fans to look at everything from the boy’s point of view because that is what we have been doing for the last 11 years, but look at this from Mary’s side. She was brought back to life with her husband gone, her sons fully grown into men and a world that has changed so much in the time she has been gone that it is a completely different world. While I didn’t expect her to up and leave the boys so soon in the season we all know she will be back. This gives writers a chance to focus on Sam and Deans struggle of their Mother being back without us having to dwell on every thing Mary has to go through to catch up with modern times as well. I’m still not sure where the season is going so hopefully a season arc will reveal itself here soon.

Also, I love episodes directed by Robert Singer. I see his name in the credits and I just smile. He has a few episodes that he has directed that have become some of my favorites. Just the same, Robert Berens as written a few of my favorite episodes as well. So basically, more Robert Singer and Robert Berens please!

Supernatural Review: We Happy Few

Supernatural: We Happy Few

Director: John Badham

Writer: Robert Berens

Staring: Jared padalecki, Jensen Ackles, Misha Collins, Mark Sheppard, Ruth Connell, Emily Swallow, Rob Benedict

Thank you Robert Berens and John Badham! Thank you for this episode filled with awkward family bonding and “did that really just happen” moments. Honestly, I could watch Misha Collins and Rob Benedict bicker all day long. The back and forth between Lucifer and God was better than I could have asked for and some. Robert Berens did an amazing job writing a scene that seems unfathomable and then making it relatable for everyone. Who hasn’t had a moment where they felt betrayed by their parent and then want nothing more than a heartfelt apology, just to hear those two little words, I’m sorry.

As if getting Lucifer and God on the same page wasn’t hard enough, the gang some how convinces the angels, the demons and Rowena with a few witches to come together to fight the darkness. Honestly, for a good moment there it looks like it’s going to work. For a brief second it looks like things, for once, are going to go in favor of the boys. The saying "hell hath no fury like a woman scorned" seriously holds up at the end of this fight. That moment just before the last commercial break where you seriously think that Amara had indeed killed God was one of the most shocking moments in the whole series of Supernatural. Just the concept of witnessing God die and then the repercussions of living in a world with out a God. It is mind-boggling. While that would have been a great ending point of the episode, waiting a whole week to find out God actually did not die yet would have been a buzz kill for the start of next week’s episode. Good choice to reveal that now rather than later.

As always I love the scenes with Rowena and Fergus… um I mean Crowely. I feel like they will come to an end some day, so getting more of those in always makes me happy.  I’m really hoping that with how things played out with Lucifer, Castiel is back and hopefully the wonderful Mark Pellegrino will some day make another appearance on the show. Misha Collins did well as Lucifer, but I want Cas back and Pellegrino as Lucifer just puts a smile on my face. If that can’t happen though, then Lucifer you get right back in there with Cas, Misha can carry those reigns.

Supernatural Review: Hell's Angel

Supernatural:  Hell’s Angel

Director: Philip Sgriccia

Writer: Brad Buckner and Eugenie Ross-Leming

Starring: Jared Padalecki, Jensen Ackles, Misha Collins, Mark Sheppard, Ruth Connell, Emily Swallow, Mark Pellegrino

Synopsis: Lucifer tries to assert himself into heaven; Crowley tells Sam and Dean they must take down Amara.

Review: After a few weeks of fun episodes, its time to jump back into the season long story arch, which thankfully involves the whole gang! Yay! Everyone is here to play in this episode including Castiel, Lucifer, Crowley, Amara and even Rowena. Guess Lucifer didn’t do a very good job killing her because she is back.

To start the episode Crowley is in Saudi Arabia, what appears to be a deal for a hand of god. Seems one of Crowley’s crossroad deals wants to trade the contract Crowley has for his soul for the Horn of Joshua. So now that things are back in motion again, everyone can work towards trying to stop Amara. Crowley, who is on the run from Lucifer, meets up with Sam and Dean to make a deal for the Horn of Joshua, yay progress. Typically though, this leads to a lot of bickering between the three of them, while enjoyable it probably went on a little too long but is funny nonetheless.  Eventually this leads to their plan to trap Lucifer and to try to remove Lucifer from Castiel’s vessel. Even with Crowley joining the party in Castiel’s head, they can’t separate Lucifer from Cas. With the plan failed and Crowley high tailing it out of there, the Boys and Rowena (who is hiding) are left alone with a not so happy Lucifer.

Now to build things up a little more, Lucifer now has the Horn of Joshua and the Winchesters at his mercy.  In very Supernatural fashion, the Darkness makes her presence known. Amara essentially blasts her way into the place. Lucifer has to put his plans for the Winchesters on hold while he deals with his aunt. All this effort to get a hand of God to use against Amara by Lucifer and… it doesn’t work.  Amara has other plans for Lucifer though, she bails with Lucifer in her grasps leaving the Winchesters basically starting from scratch again.

Ending the episode it is decided by Sam and Dean that the hand of God may not have worked properly because Lucifer is not in Gods favor, which prevented the weapon from working, as it should anyway. I’m sure this is going to lead to one of the Winchesters yielding the weapon, assuming they find another hand of God for the big fight. There seems to be more of these things lying around than originally thought. Also Amara, now with Lucifer in her possession, is convinced she can bring God out of hiding by using Lucifer as bait. We will have to see how that works out for her.

Final Thoughts: I love episodes that bring everyone back together again, the bickering and banter warms my heart. Also Mark Pellegrino making an appearance was my favorite part! While Misha is doing a good job with Lucifer, Mark Pellegrino is just fabulous, for this show he is Lucifer and I miss him. Plus add him with Mark Sheppard and I'm just a kid in a candy shop! While I do like Rowena, I’m not a fan of the character being brought back to life. The moment was so big and bringing her back just takes away from it. For purposes of putting Lucifer back in the box, I understand why they brought her back. It’ll be interesting to see where this story arch goes from here, we are in a pickle with Amara holding Lucifer and the boys back at scratch so close to the end of the season.

Supernatural Review: Season 11 Episode 10 “The Devil in the Details”

Supernatural Review: Season 11 Episode 10 “The Devil in the Details”

Director: Thomas J Wright

Written: Andrew Dabb

Starring: Jared Padalecki, Jensen Ackles, Misha Collins, Mark Pellegrino, Mark Sheppard

Synopsis: Now that he has Sam in the cage with him, Lucifer offers Sam a way out but it comes with a steep price. Dean and Castiel look into the angel smiting that might have killed Amara.

Review: Nothing says we’re back like Mark Sheppard in a onesie and Lucifer doubling as Santa Claus! After a funny tease to kick off the show we are right back in the thick of things. Sam and Lucifer go through that song and dance again, will Sam say yes or will he say no? That is the million-dollar question. About half of this episode is Lucifer doing what he can to convince Sam to say yes to letting Lucifer use his body as a vessel and beat the darkness, all while Dean of course is doing what he can to save his brother. That sly dog, Lucifer almost had me convinced Sam should say yes.

It was nice to see some flash backs thrown into the episode. Nothing like seeing familiar faces! Colin Ford was back, which it is always nice to see him as Young Sam Winchester. Also, we got to see a little bit of Adam, you know Adam, their half brother that fell in the whole to hell with Sam. Fans are still waiting for more to take place with that and after this episode, don’t worry we are all still waiting.

The big relief for the episode, Sam says no. That’s right for once he said no, Lucifer threw his best shot and Sam still said no! It is so refreshing to see Sam stay strong. That a boy Sam! Even with all of Lucifer’s smooth talk, Sam still resisted, but Lucifer brought up some very good arguments that I am hoping are brought up again through out the season. The big one being the boys always seem to choose each other over the world, which sadly was a bitter pill to swallow. How many horrible things have happened? I mean sure they’ve done what they could to clean up after but still…

The unexpected parts of this episode, Rowena moments were probably some of the funniest of this episode and most revealing character wise. The brief moments in the episode are probably the most insightful of Rowena and Crowley’s relationship. Even though Rowena is forced to reveal these emotions, it is still very touching. Sadly though, those moments will not be happen again. If you’re a Supernatural fan you should have seen this was coming, after all Rowena is a woman after all. Sadly wither they are good or bad, they just don’t last on this show. Rowena meet her end at the hands of Lucifer. We all know she a goner as soon as she admitted she was the only one that could put Lucifer back in the box.

The shocking part of the episode? Castiel what did you do? While I am very grateful it wasn’t one of the Winchester boys to give in for a change, Castiel saying yes probably was the best way to reveal how truly worried he is about Amara. Castiel being the one to say yes speaks volumes of how bad this situation really is. Also its going to be hilarious watching Misha Collins act like Mark Pellegrino’s Lucifer acting like Castiel! I cant wait!

Just because it needs to be remembered forever!
