Arrow Review: Season 5 Episode 2 "The Recruits"

Arrow, Season 5 Episode 2
“The Recruits”

Starring:
Stephen Amell, David Ramsey, Willa Holland, Emily Bett Rickards, Echo Kellum, Paul Blackthorne, Rick Gonzalez, Madison McLaughlin, Tyler Ritter, Joe Dinicol, Chad L. Coleman, Suki Kaiser

Synopsis:
Oliver recruits Curtis, Wild Dog and Evelyn Sharp for his team, but his training methods prove to be too much for some to handle. In flashbacks, Oliver continues his initiation into the Bratva.

Final Thoughts:
Two weeks in a row Arrow has produced quality Television. In this episode Oliver is trying to set up a free clinic for Star City, during the opening we are introduce to this weeks bad guy who ultimalty turns into the good guy Ragman. This turn happens when a show down with Tobias Church. Before the end of the episode we once again are treated to the Dark Archer. Also throughout the episode we see the training of the new recruits, obviously since this is Arrow, the training doesn’t go as well and lead to Oliver needing to apologies and reveal his true identity to gain the teams trust.

A few thoughts i had on the episode, the recruits came off as whiny and quitters. I think there has to be more trust built in just by training with a man who has been doing the vigilantey thing for many years. If this keeps going this way with no quick resolution the fans will loose interest in these characters. Another thought came to mind when watching this episode, the daytime scenes really change the feeling of the show. I have to say I really enjoyed them as it brought a more up beat feeling to a normally doom and gloom show.

With the inclusion of the Dark Archer AKA Prometheus, there is a new man out to get the Green Arrow. From casting reveals this past summer, we know there is some sort of personal connection between the two. Does anyone else think Tommy Merlin? It actually makes sense especially with the death of the woman he loved Laurel and before anyone says a thing about Tommy dying, really its not the first time someone has been brought back to life.

Once again it was a great episode and in many ways it was especially nice to see a less drama filled Felicity, she even got back to make some of her more silly jokes which the was the reason fans of the show fell in love with her. As for the show itself it was nice to see the fighting sequences become much smother since last year and the writing in general was much tighter.

We want to hear your thoughts on the episode, leave your comments below.

Supernatural Review: Red Meat

Supernatural Review: Red Meat

Director: Nina Lopez-Corrado

Writer: Robert Berens, Andrew Dabb

Staring: Jared Padalecki, Jensen Ackles, Lisa Berry, Suki Kaiser, Toby Levins, Eileen Pedde, Erin Way

Synopsis: Sam and Dean battle a pair of werewolves who have captured two victims. Just as the brothers are about to win, one of the werewolves shoots Sam. Dean gets his brother and the victims out of the house but learns a pack of werewolves are hot on their tail, hoping to kill them all.

Review: Well this show kicked off with a bang… no literally a bang. It’s been awhile since we felt like one of the Winchesters might bite the bullet, and what better way to remind everyone than with one of them getting shot. With werewolves hot on their trail they need to get everyone to help as soon as possible. With the belief that Sam has passed, Dean is forced to leave Sam behind and get the victims to safety.

Dean does what Dean always does and finds a way to kill him self just enough so he can talk to Billie the reaper. I know I shouldn’t like her, but I do. She really does want to be the one to reap the Winchesters when the time comes. This episode was a perfect reminder for everyone of what is at risk for the boys. No mater what Dean asks, there would be no deals or trades if one of the dies, she proved her point “The answer will always be no.” With the big fight against the Darkness, this was the perfect time to remind everyone Billie is waiting.

As it turns out, Sam is not dead (thank goodness) and some how he manages overpowers two werewolves to get to the hospital to save the day. Poor Sam, he must be in so much pain and he still has to get his big brother out of trouble.  Luckily Sam gets some much needed revenge on Corbin for almost killing him back in the woods.

Final thoughts: This didn’t feel like a typical Supernatural episode, but that is okay because the choices made for this episode were spot on. I don't think I have ever taken the time to acknowledge just how amazing the editing team is for Supernatural, so this is me taking a moment to say they are amazing. The "Then" montages at the beginning of the episodes always do such a great job to set up the episodes. Plus the music for this episode was much more subtle than normal, which fit this episode so perfectly. The final scene between Dean and Michelle in the hospital was amazing! Erin Way did a fantastic job.
