Comic Book Review: Dark Knight III: The Master Race #4 - DC Comics (2016)

Superman's daughter Lara is bent on destroying her father if he doesn't join her and "their people."  Batman and Robin watch from far away and Gotham is given an ultimatum.

I keep buying this book despite the stupid price.  I'm not sure why I do as it basically means I'm saying it's okay to charge $5.99 per issue.  I guess I do take some solace in the fact I get 20% off the cover price but then again, I do on books that cost $2.99 as well.  The series has been good thus far, but for this price, I can buy 2 books.




"Batgirl"

Batgirl needs to get to the pier.  There are people that don't want her to get there.

Well, I guess you do get two comics for this price.  The DKIII series comes with a mini comic in each issue and Batgirl is this month's inclusion.  These mini books have a look unto themselves, regardless of who is drawing them.  Sinclair's colors are wonderful so it at least has that going for it.

Comic Book Review: Dark Knight III: The Master Race - DC Comics (2016)

Book Three

The Kryptonians are making their presence known while Batman and Robin go out to get the help they need to save the planet.

Things continue to get interesting within this story and the plot continues to thicken.  I'm sure you can guess who Bats would turn to in such a time of impossible crisis but you probably don't quite know what awaits them.  The end of this book definitely has you anxious to see what happens in book four.  The dialogue, story pacing and the Twitter feed trolling throughout the book is so fantastically written.  Miller and Azzarello are truly on their game.

Andy Kubert does a great job capturing Miller's essence with the art in this book.  He has a knack for getting the exaggerated features and facial expressions that move this story along incredibly well.

There is also a mini book included within Book Three of Dark Knight III: The Master Race.

Green Lantern #1

Green Lantern reminisces about his life and has a run in with some floating women in Egypt.

This was an odd story and I'm sure it will fit at some point.  Green Lantern is painted as somebody that is, basically, worthless in the Dark Knight Universe.  Well, other than that ring of his.

The art is awful in this book.  I normally do not knock artists as so many books are stylized and fit the story being told.  This book did no favors for itself by looking the way it does.  I've long applauded John Romita Jr. as my favorite artist ever for Amazing Spider-Man so by no means am I saying he is a poor artist.

Comic Book Review: Dark Knight III: The Master Race #1 - DC Comics (2015)

The universe of Frank Miller's version of Batman continues in Dark Knight III: The Master Race.  Thought to be dead, it appears
Batman is back and badder than ever.  There is footage from a cell phone that catches the Dark Knight fighting with police.  Everyone wants to know who is under the cowl and the reveal may surprise you.

This series is off to a fantastic start.  I was not originally going to partake in the purchasing of these books since they have a $5.99 cover price.  Luckily for me, my wife shops for comics based on cover and bought the first two issues for me(a review of issue two will follow in the next day or so).  Frank Miller teaming with Brian Azzarello is great and also Andy Kubert is capturing much of the look the previous Dark Knight series.'

It's really cool to see more of the DC universe early on with DKIII.  Wonder Woman looks to play a large part and we are introduced to another character who is looking to help her people.  We also get a glimpse of Superman and where he is chilling.



The Atom #1

There's also a bonus story within the comic book and that helps me in justifying the $5.99 cover price.  It's actually a mini book and stars The Atom.  We get a look into his world and what makes him tick.  We are also shown a character that shows up at the end of DKIII #1 who enlists the help of Dr. Palmer.

I like seeing that Frank Miller did the artwork for this one.  The cover with Superman on it is interesting to say the least.

If the price doesn't scare you too much, I'd say DKIII #1 is a nice addition to your collection.  It's a little tough knowing there are awesome books at half the price available.  Two issues of Saga or Paper Girls cost the same as one issue of DKIII.  Could be tough if you're on a budget.
