Supergirl Review: Season 2 Episode 2 "The Last Children of Krypton"

Supergirl Season 2 Episode 2

“The Last Children of Krypton”

Synopsis:

Supergirl is hurt by a kryptonite-powered villain sent by Cadmus to attack National City. Superman blames Hank since the kryptonite was stolen from the DEO. In th meantime, Kara’s first day at her new job doesn’t go as planned when she meets her new boss Snapper Car.

Final Thoughts:

The main theme of episode 2 was change, Kara starting her new job, which doesn’t go as planned, Cat Grant officially announcing she is taking a leave of absence from CatCo, and Superman planning on heading back to the Metropolis. The show is going through a lot of changes and now that we know that Calista Flockhart is officiation down graded to a reoccurring guest star, it looks like the show may be loosing that calming influence she brought. On top of that we find ourselves stuck with James Olsen running CatCo. Obviously, this move makes sense since their really no longer seems to be a real reason for James to be on the show, especially with Winn moving to the DEO. The one wild card in this will be Ian Gomez and what he brings to the role of Snapper Car, Kara’s new boss. 

Also, we learned that this season will focus on Cadmus, a group with some ties to the military which not only experiments on Alien, but also had Jeremiah Danvers. Due to a trader within the DEO, Candmus was able to get kryptonite. One of Candmus’s Dr. used the stolen kryptonite to create two cyborgs.

I am really enjoying this story, especially when J’onn J’onzz and superman finally found common ground which resulted in finally seeing a live action team up between the Martian Manhunter and Superman. With the DEO story playing a major role this reason, I am really getting behind the show this season and I’m looking forward to some resolution to the Jeremiah Danvers story and finally learning more about the mysteries man found in the alien pod.

The Flash Review: Season 3 Episode 2 "Paradox"

The Flash Season 3 Episode 2

“Paradox”

Synopsis:

Barry discovers that the effects from Flashpoint are greater than he thought. In the meantime, he meets his new co-worker who has an immediate disdain for him.

Final Thoughts:

The second episode of the season brought us The Flash Paradox. With Barry now back in his original timeline he realizes some of the timeline is still off, like a new lab mate who hates him, arguments between Iris and Joe, and Cisco angry and not talking, Barry realizes he really messed everything up. The guilt of destroying his friends life, Barry decided to travel back and fix the destruction he caused, only to be stopped by The Flash…..Jay Garrick.

I’m mixed with how I feel about this episode. Obviously it is setting up to stop any major changes for at least the near future. It also fast forward us to Vibe and Killer Frost. In this episode we also saw the return of the Rival, who was brought to be by Alchemy……I mean DR. Alchemy, the new major villain. 

What really bothered me with the episode is the dynamic  changes between the team, the question has to be, is it to much for one season? This angry Cisco routine is not fun to watch, the addition of more speedsters and both Vibe and Killer Frost. It just seems like much, ultimately I hope I’m wrong.

Supergirl Review: Season 2 Episode 1 "The Adventures of Supergirl"

Supergirl Season 2 Episode 1

“The Adventures of Supergirl”

Synopsis:

Supergirl and Clark team up to stop a new threat emerging in National City; Alex feels left out while Kara’s Family stays in town; a pod comes crashing down to earth.

Final Thoughts:

After a rocky first season which saw fans turn against a Superman fan favorite, low ratings except a crossover episode with The Flash, and a end of a season which saw the show move networks, Supergirl finally debuted on the CW. So what does a show do when everything went down hill the year prior. You obviously bring in the Man of Steel, which helped Supergirl to a record breaking Monday night and the 2nd highest rated for the CW show ever. 

So the more important question, was the first episode of Supergirl as good as the ratings say? The answer is an unquestionable yes! We didn’t even have to wait to long before being introduced to Clark Kent, Tyler Hoechlin did an amazing job being able to channel that Midwest nerd vibe which is Clark. This episode also touch further on the issues between Superman and J’onn J’onzz, and of course this has something to do with kryptonite. This I assume will be touched on more throughout the season when Superman reference the President. 

With Superman now part of the CW DC Universe, it was nice to see that the writers of the show pay tribute to Superman: The Movie with Wynn reference of the earthquake caused by Lex Luthor. Which obviously brings us to the potential new season villain Lena Luthor, who has officially taken over for Lex at Lexcorp.

Finally, it seems like there are some Sad days ahead teased though out the episode. Cat Grant maybe phasing out as a regular character and move into the role of a reoccurring character. If you have read any of my previous reviews from last season, you would know that Cat Grant was one of the more surprising and fun character to watch throughout the season.

Legends of Tomorrow Review: Season 1 Episode 13 "Leviathan"

Legends of Tomorrow Season 1 Episode 13

“Leviathan”

Synopsis:

Rip takes the team to london in the year 2166, three months before his family is killed. He Believes this to be their final opportunity to take out Savage who is, unfortunately, at the height of his power.

Review:

The team arrives in 2166 three days before the death of Rips family. The goal is to stop Savage before he can kill anyone, things go awry during the first attempt to grab Savage.

The team decides to kidnap the second in command, however when captured they learn that her name is Cassandra Savage; the daughter of Vandal. With his daughter kidnapped, Savage unleashes his giant weapon.

After Snart was able to convince Cassandra that her father is evil. She agrees to take the team to attack Savage, at the same time Ray needs to defend against the Giant weapon which is out to history the ship.

The Episode ends when Kendra is unable to kill Savage due to his power over Carter hall.

Final Thoughts:

This was one of those episode, I wasn’t the biggest fan but I understood it and appreciated the direction. This show continues to be the biggest mystery to me. I am not sure if the main story is just bad, but it seems some of the best episodes are the filler episodes.

Loved that we got to see The ATOM increase in size, that was a nice comic book nerd moment for myself.

Arrow Review: Season 4 Episode 19 "Canary Cry"

Arrow Season 4 Episode 19 

“Canary Cry”

Synopsis:

Oliver and the team struggle to come to terms with laurel’s death, especially Diggle who is overwhelmed with quilt for choosing to believe Andy had changed. Meanwhile, Lance refuses to believe his Daughter is really gone and asks Nyssa to help bring her back.

Review:

With the entire team trying to put the pieces back together after Laural’s Death, another person has taken up the mantel of Black Canary.

Oliver, trying to stop the tarnishing of the Black Canary’s legacy, is also dealing with mourning of a friend and the grief of the team and their self blame. Diggle is the one taking it the hardest, as he is blaming himself for not listening to Oliver when he was warned that his brother could be playing both sides. This cause Diggle to snap and he goes after Ruve Adams.

With Adams using the attack on her as an excuse to go after the Vigilantes and also blame the death of Laural on the black Canary. It leave Oliver with only one choice, which was to announce at the funeral that Laural was the Canary and she died protecting the city.

Final Thoughts:

Not only have the last two episode been great, but there has been a feel to them which hasn’t been around since season two. This is a very solid news, especially going into the last few episodes of the season.

Once again it looks as if the time line between Arrow and Flash has been thrown off, We see Barry show up at the very end of the episode at the grave. Nice little tease, as he walks up to talk with Oliver, but ends up speeding away when done. I will say that it was nice to see that Barry does have his powers back, 

This was a solid episode ad regained some faith in the searies…..Who am i kidding, I will always love this show even when it gets bad.

The Flash Review: Season 2 Episode 17 "Flash Back"

The Flash Season 2 Episode 17

“Flash Back”

Synopsis:

After the shocking revelation of Zoom’s real identity, Barry is more determined than ever to get back to Earth-2 to stop Zoom forever. Desperate to find a way to increase his speed, Barry decides to travel back in time and masquerade as his earlier self in order to get his arch-nemesis, Dr. Harrison Wells/Eobard Thawne, to teach him how to run faster. However, things do not go as planned and Barry is stunned to face familiar foe Hartley Rathaway, as well as old friend Eddie Thane. Iris makes peace with her past in order to embrace her future.

Review:

With Barry working effortlessly trying to increase his speed, he decides that the only way to become faster is to go back in time and learn from the Reverse Flash. Things go wrong when Barry comes across a Time Wraith and shows up at the wrong time in the past.

Due to the strange behavior of Barry, Dr. Wells figures out he is from the future. While Barry is trying to convince Thawne to help him become faster, the Time Wraith attacks Star Labs. Cisco and Caitlin have to rely on Hartely who is currently being held, for help.

The end of the episode see the past Barry help Future Barry travel back to the Future where the Time Wraith followed and attacked Barry. With the timeline ultimately effected it was Hartley Rathaway who was there to save the day.

Final Thoughts:

Another great episode of The Flash, I love the time travel episodes and this one was especially great due to the fact that we got to see Future and Past Barry’s working together. We also got to see the effects of time travel effecting the timeline when Hartley was there at the end to help save Barry.

It was also great to see the return of the Eobard Thawne/Dr. Wells character return. There has been a part of me that has ultimately missed that version of Wells. 

Finally its kinda amazing how The Flash and Arrow are so different with how they have developed their leading Ladies. With Arrow, I feel ultimately I end up disliking them, where as with The Flash Iris comes across as likable. It just goes to show you how great The Flash really is.

Arrow Review: Season 4 Episode 17 "Beacon of Hope"

Arrow Season 4 Episode 17

“Beacon of Hope”

Synopsis:

The Bug-Eyed Bandit escapes from jail and turns up at Palmer Tech threatening to kill everyone in the building unless she gets the Bio-Chip that was implanted in Felicity’s spine.

Review:

Brie Larvan is back, getting her release from prison early she is out to get the bio-chip from Felicity. The Bug-Eyed Bandit decides to take Palmer tech hostage until Felicity shows. Without Felicity, the team is lost trying to figure the best way to defeat the artificial bee’s of Bries. Fortunately for the team Curtis Holt went home early and decided to step in to help. 

In order to stop the Bug-Eyed Bandit, Holt develops a virus to stop the bee’s from attacking. We also found out that Felicity has no want to rejoin the team, and the separation is hurting Oliver to the point of lashing out at his friends.

The end of the episode ends with Malcolm meeting Diggle’s brother in order to help the escape of Damien Darhk from prison.

Final Thoughts:

Well there goes the longest stretch without the secret identity of Oliver being given up. I think i am ok with Curtis Holt finding out, but only if it means a bigger role going forward. 

For the most part this episode was another dud, there was no build into the remainder of the season. We also didn’t get any resolution to the Oliver/Felicity drama, which now is officially ruining each episode. At some point we need a resolution, which I don’t believe will happen until either these two get back together or Felicity is gone from the show. 

Unfrotunatley the best part of the episode was the min of the show. We learn that in some fashion Andy Diggle is still working for Darhk. Nice little teaser for the next episode.

This unfortunately this was the worse episode of the season. Another villain not being used correctly, more Relationship drama than I care to watch, and worse of all the episode barely did anything to advance the story. Let us know what your thoughts of the episode were.

Supergirl Review: Season 1 Episode 18 "World Finest"

Supergirl Season 1 Episode 18

“Worlds Finest”

Synopsis:

Kara gains a new ally when The Flash arrives from an alternate universe and helps her fight the Silver Banshee and Livewire in exchange for her helping him return home.

Review:

With Siobhan Smythe learning of her new powers, she is intent on destroying Kara. Kara meanwhile is still dealing with the issues of no longer having trust of the city. 

Siobhan decides to confront Kara using her powerful scream to send Kara out of the Catco high-rise. Who is there to save her, non other than The Flash. While discussing who they are, Barry learns that he is on another Earth after training to become faster. Barry needs to get home, however before he attempts to jump earths he decides to stick around and help Supergirl with her new villain problem The Silver Banshee and Livewire.

With Barry helping and using his knowledge of meta-humans they confront Livewire and Silver Banshee, In the end it was the citizens of National City that save the day, after Supergirl sacrifices herself to save the people.

Final Thoughts:

The episode we have been waiting for, and it didn’t disappoint. The Crossover with The Flash was amazing and left us with the best episode of Supergirl. This episode was filled with so many amazing moments, like the moment that Barry realizes he is no longer on Earth-One, Listing the names of The Green Arrow, Black Canary, Firestorm and The Atom then there was the Cat Grants CW line. These were spot on moments and just perfect, an example of what happens when everything works.

This episode didn’t feel like a Supergirl episode, it felt like a Flash episode. It just so apparent that the creative team really loves The Flash character. There are always these little moments with in these comic book shows that gets my inner comic book nerd self excited. Once The Flash’s music hit, I had one of those moments, then there was the balcony scene where Barry was the mentor and you get the soft Flash music play. So Great!

The episode stars had to be Winn, Cat Grant and Grant Gustin. Even Melissa Benoist was amazing, not that she isn’t always. Winn’s excitement that there is a man that can time travel was so refreshing, and Benoist became even more charming than usual. But in the end it was Grant Gustin, he is the star of the DC Universe. DC Comics, take note Grant Gustin is The Flash and it would be in the best interest to get him in the movies as soon as possible.

This is what these shows should be fun and charming. This is a must see episode and If you didn’t catch it you need to find it. This is what happens when casting is spot on. Let us know what your thoughts of the episode were, leave your comments below.

Arrow Review: Season 4 Episode 16 "Broken Hearts"

Arrow Season 4 Episode 16

“Broken Hearts”

Synopsis:

Following the events of William’s kidnapping, Darhk has become less powerful, but carrie Cutter, A.K.A Cupid, has emerged into Star City to cause chaos on the city and the Green Arrow.

Review:

The engagement is off between Oliver and Felicity, Damien Darhk is on trial and Cupid is back in town. The only way to take Darhk down, Captain Lance will need to incriminate himself, he confesses to helping Darhk due to threats to Laurel’s life.

Meanwhile Cupid is going on a rampage, first killing a celebrity couple and than kidnapping another. This is all due to being heartbroken over the death of Deadshot, the teams only way to stop her is an uncomfortable fake wedding between Felicity and Oliver.

The end of the episode we see Felicity walk away from the team telling Oliver she is already gone, than we see Darhk in prison. Lights flickering while he puts on what looks to be a wedding band.

Final Thoughts:

These are the episodes of Arrow which really are frustrating. I am not against relationship drama, but its frustrating that this storyline has been going on for the better part of three seasons. Its time for the creators of Arrow to ask themselves the question, are they writing a show which is based off Comicbooks Characters or do they continue to want to write for “Friends”. 

I guess i am just surprised at the ability of Arrow to be such a great show and at the same time have some horrible episodes. Cupid has the ability to be a great villain but again it gets lost in the drama of Felicity and Oliver. The only way I can see them working this issue out is have Felicity have a very limited appearance in the next few episodes. Lets get back to the Arrow we all know. The only interesting take away from this episode has to be does Darhk have his powers back? The final scene somewhat suggests as much. Only time will tell.

The Flash Review: Season 2 Episode 16 "Trajectory"

The Flash Season 2 Episode 16

“Trajectory”

Synopsis:

Trajectory arrives in town intent on creating maximum chaos. Trajectory’s antics are misinterpreted as having been perpetrated by The Flash himself. Barry must thus act quickly to uncover the mystery of who is causing damage in which others think it is him, and what may be driving their mad desire for speed and destruction.

Review:

With the team exhausted trying to increase Barry’s speed, they decide to go out, this is where we meet Trajectory, who starts to cause havoc across the city making the public believe it is The Flash. The team believes that it is Eliza Harmon, a scientist which Caitlin reached out to for help on Velocity 9. With Barry unable to catch her, he contemplates using the serum in order to increase his own speed. This was until Harrison Wells talks him out of it. With her increase use of Velocity 9, Trajectory runs so fast that she ends up evaporating due to the side effects.

Meanwhile during the episode, we learn that Cisco is also vibing, in this case its on Zoom. While trying to figure out what caused Trajectory to evaporate, they start to connect the dots and which all point to Jay. They use Jay’s helmet to allow Cisco to vibe and finally learn his real identity of Zoom.

Final Thoughts:

After a few weeks on Hiatus, The Flash is back. A very solid episode, but as is the case of all villains which didn’t get there name from Cisco Trajectory was weak. But in the end this episode was more about revealing who Zoom really is than it was about the villain. 

I am disappointed that Jesse will no longer be part of show, I was interested to see what her character was going to bring to the team. As in many cases, chances are she will return some where down the road.

As said before this was a solid episode, but only worth One Thumbs Up. Not due to anything being bad but more as a result of the season we have been given. So many great episodes not all can be Two Thumbs Up. Let us know what your thoughts of the episode are and leave your comment below.

Legends of Tomorrow Review: Season 1 Episode 8 "Night of The Hawk"

Legends of Tomorrow Season 1 Episode 8

“Night of The Hawk”

Synopsis:

The team tracks Savage to a small town in Oregon during the 1950s. Upon arrival, they discover there have been a recent string of murders and they suspect Savage is involved. Professor Stein and Sara go undercover at a psychiatric hospital, where Savage is working as a doctor, to find out his plan. While there, Sara meets a nurse named Lindsay and sparks fly. Meanwhile, Ray and Kendra pretend to be a married couple to gain the neighborhood's trust, but an interracial couple in the '50s isn't something that goes unnoticed. Soon, Savage is at their door.

Review:

The team travels back to 1958 where the trail for Savage leads. Team splits up to investigate missing people which they believe is the result of Savage. While pretending to be a married couple Ray and Kendra learn their neighbor is Savage, and Sara and Stein learn that he has a restrictive wing in a mental hospital. 

The team learns fast that Savage has been performing experiments on trying to create himself a army of Hawk People. With Jax being captured by the local Sherif and has the same experiments done to him its up to Stein to find a cure. 

Final Thoughts:

With the setting being 1958, Legends of Tomorrow didn’t shy away from the issue of the time. Obviously touching on the issues with Bi Racial couples and racism. For a comic book show this was done in a way that showed the ridiculousness of the time but without taking away from the main purpose of the show.

Another amazing performance from Stein, stealing every scene he was in and at the same time bring Sara to another level. We also got a little blow back from the ending of the last episode as Jax’s takes issue with Snart removing Rory from the team. This was an issue through out the episode only to have Snart being the hero and saving Jax.

By far the most interesting part of the show has to be the ending with the team being split apart due to Chronos jumping on board the Waverunner and time jumping. Where does this leave the team and how will they come back together?

Legends of Tomorrow Review: Season 1 Episode 7 "Marooned"

“Marooned”

Synopsis:

After receiving a distress call from another timeship stranded in space, Rim decide’s to answer the call in order to use the other ship’s computer to track Savage, the team is suspicious and warn’s him this could be a trap but he move’s forward with his plan. Ultimately, the team was right and they have to battle time pirate’s, with most of the team capture it is up to Professor Stein to rescue them all.

Review:

With the trail to Vandal Savage going cold, Rip and the team need to find another way to locate Savage’s position. When a distress signal from another Timeship is retrieved by the team, Rip decides to answer the call for help. Once there they learn the ship had been taken over by Time Pirates and now are captives. With the pirate chasing the other half of the team its up to Stein to save everyone else. 

Rory decides to cease the opportunity to return to 2016 by making a deal with the pirates for the ship. Because of his betrayal Snart makes the decision to drop him off, only to be left with and end scene of him hitting Rory with his cold gun.

Final Thoughts: 

Loved the episode, with that being said I am still not fully behind Rip. It seems to be my only complaint of the series, as he is just not “Hero” like at all. I fully understand the emotional stress that he would be under, but being a Comic book show I feel he should be a little different. 

I have to say I loved Stein and his joy of being able to fulfill the dream of being a space ranger, also all the Star Trek and Star Wars references from Ray were priceless.

Then we had the stand off between Rory and Snart. The Bad guy who just wants to be bad vs the Bad guy who is finally living up to the Flash’s predictions of him. This was bound to happen, and the show creators really know how to fully commit Snart to being the hero we all deserve. Those moments with sara freezing to death really cemented this fact. 

But the way the episode ended, I really can’t believe that they killed off Rory. I guess we will have to wait to see what happens but it does look like they are moving that direction.

Supergirl Review: Season 1 Episode 15 "Solitude"

Supergirl Season 1 Episode 15

“Solitude”

Synopsis:

Kara travels to the Fortress of Solitude hoping to find information on how to defeat Indigo, a being from her past who can travel through the Internet. In the meantime, James and Lucy reach a crossroads in their relationship.

Review:

With a new villain in town, Supergirl decides to go about trying to save the city by herself due to her issues with Hank and the DEO for the dreath of her Aunt Astra. After an encounter with Indigo, James takes Kara to her cousins Fortress of Solitude. 

By the time Kara and James get back into town, Indigo is after the military’s Nuclear Lunch codes, once the one of the Nuclear weapons have been launch, Kara’s only choice left is to contact the DEO for help. While Kara is of saving the city, Wynn is developing a Visor which will stop Indigo.

Final Thoughts:

Talk about a roller coaster of an episode, when it missed it really missed and when it hit, it really hit. You have the all the easter eggs and teasers, more connections to Superman. But it was also filled with weird relationship drama.

So what did I like with the 15th episode of Supergirl. Well it was awesome to see the Fortress of Solitude, it was definitely a Donner inspired Fortress. Its always nice when shows and movies pay the due respect to movies that have set the tone for Comicbooks movies so long ago. I also loved seeing the Legion Ring on display. Indigo looks to be a great villain which the writers can develop and make a long time nemesis.

What did I not like, well as soon as I had something good to say about good Ole Jimmy the writes decided to go back in time and give us the Drama filled Olsen. I don’t think I am in the minority on this, Olsen is the worse character on the show. His purpose is the have some sort of tie in to Superman, but instead they are giving us relationship drama. The moment that Lucy and Jimmy broke up was the moment i realized I didn’t care. That’s a bad feeling to have about a main character.

We also finally got the confession from Alex, which was a long time coming. What made this moment so good was that Supergirl was actually Supergirl in this moment. When she decided to hug Alex and essentially forgive her for killing Astra, Kara became more the hero we should have and moved just a little bit past the girl she has been portraying.
