Comic Book Review: Doctor Who: The Twelfth Doctor Adventures Year Two #2 - Titan Comics (2016)

Written by Robbie Morrison
Art by Rachael Stott

Clara Oswald's friend Christel has gone missing and she decides to investigate and calls upon the Doctor to assist.  Good thing Clara called upon the Doctor as there are plenty of strange things happening at and near the Ravenscaur School.

This was a fun start to the story.  Plenty of aliens, monsters and ghosts.  There is also the signature Doctor Who humor which is something that makes this fun book to read.  The way it is written, I feel like I am hearing the voices.

The art looks great as well, especially Clara.  Rachael Stott definitely captures everything in the face of the Impossible Girl.  If I had one thing to pick on, it's unfortunately The Doctor.  He look a bit young throughout the comic but that's pretty minor compared to how well everything else looks.

Doctor Who is one of my favorite television series and i'm glad I finally took the time to read the comic books.  Thanks to Zwaag Bag for including this Doctor Who comic book in their March 2016 box, I finally took that opportunity.  The comic book I received had Cover D which I feel has a really cool and fun look to it.  Read the review of the entire March 2016 Zwaag Bag here.

Comic Book Review: Doctor Who: The New Adventures of the Fourth Doctor #1 - Titan Comics (2016)

"Gaze of the Medusa"
Part 1

Written by Gordon Rennie & Emma Beeby
Art by Brian Williamson

The Doctor and Sarah Jane Smith are in London, 1887 taking in a play about the Wild West.  Little do they know, there are strange things going on with creatures unlike anyone in London has ever seen.  As one can imagine, the Doctor and Sarah Jane, with a little help from a couple of locals, get involved.

Admittedly I am not as familiar with the Fourth Doctor.  I was introduced to Doctor Who much later.  That said, I really enjoyed this book!  It read well and kept me captivated the entire time and I was a little sad when it came to an end.  The comic book ends on a nice cliffhanger and issue two should be a good one.

I also really enjoyed the art in this comic book,  There were a lot of darker tones which makes a book about monsters doing monster things that much more frightening.  Brian Williamson did a wonderful job capturing the look of the Fourth Doctor and Sarah Jane and making this feel like a modern look at a classic television show.

This normally wouldn't be a book I would have purchased but it came into my possession through a subscription service called Zwaag Bag.  Every month has a theme and luckily for me, I ended up with a couple of Doctor Who comic books including this one.  I do reviews of subscription box reviews for HelloSubscription and you can read about Zwaag Bag and get a coupon here.  The cover that is pictured is the book I received.

Jessica Jones Review: Season 1 Episode 2 "AKA Crush Syndrome"

Jessica Jones Season 1 Episode 2
“AKA Crush Syndrome”

Synopsis:
Jessica vows to prove Hope's innocence, even though it means tracking down a terrifying figure from her own past.

Review:
Episode 2 Start with Jessica in an interrogation room being questioned on the events from the shooting in the Elevator. During the Investigation cops found photo’s taken of Luke Cage and end up questioning him as well.  Its seems there is some tie to a woman who died and Cage. I am guessing she must have died due to Jessica and this is the reason she has been following Luke. Jessica try’s to explain the photo’s telling a story about being hired by the woman’s husband which he is currently sleeping with. The woman’s Husband decides to get a few buddies to go and rough up Luke, while this is happening Jessica goes to help and finds out that he has his own “Powers/abilities”

We also get Jessica going to visit the girl in prison, we learn from this visit that Kilgrave is trying to search for someone like Jessica, making the girl Jump and jump in order to see if she may have the same abilities. It seems from the bits and pieces we keep getting that as much as Jessica is afraid of Kilgrave, He might have the same fear of her. We also know Kilgrave blames Jessica for leaving him to die after getting hit by a bus.

To save the girl and prove that she is innocent Jessica must find proof that Kilgrave is real in order to convince Jaryn to take the case. This leads her in search where she finds that not only did Kilgrave get a surgeon to perform an operation to get two new kidneys but also had the paramedic at the scene give his Kidneys.

Final Thoughts, We finally get our first glimpse of David Tennant as Kilgrave. I just wish we got a chance to see him wearing Chucks. (yes, I am guessing you will have to put of with a lot of Doctor Who References as Tennant was my favorite Doctor). We see a scene where Trish Walker is training. What role can we expect from her character going forward. Overall the show is great at the slow burn, and for being such a Dark Comicbook show it has grabbed my attention fast. A little side note, the composer of Jessica Jones, Sean Callery also did all the music for 24.

Overall I give this episode One Thumbs up. Leave comments below on your thoughts of the show
