Comic Book Review - Herald: Lovecraft & Tesla #3 - Action Lab Comics

Written by: John Reilly
Art by: Tom Rogers and Dexter Weeks

Nikola Tesla and H.P. Lovecraft have broken into Athenaeum Library and have discovered there were others already there.  Cthulhu cultists looking for an original Necronomicon.  The cultists want to know why they are there and why it seems Lovecraft knows so much.

I love a good capture and escape type of story.  This is exactly that and I especially love it when science and a bit of creative trickery is used.  Lovecraft being questioned while Tesla, with one hand badly damaged, is attending to the wound of the professor who was in the wrong place at the wrong time.  Unfortunately for the cultists, Tesla was locked in a room full of chemicals and, well, you're going to have to read the book to see what he did.

If you're having difficulty finding the first three books of this series, they are also collected in a trade paperback.  You can pick it up for $11.99 or do what I did, and check your local library.  Just watch out for Cthulhu cultists!

Comic Book Review - Herald: Lovecraft & Tesla - Issue 2 - Action Lab Comics

Written by: John Reilly

Nikola Tesla and H.P. Lovecraft continue their search for answers to find out what may have caused Amelia Earhardt's disappearance.  Before they can go to Lovecraft's school professor, they must deal with a tentacle faced monster in H.P's basement.

The adventure continues as Lovecraft's mother appears to have summoned some sort of tentacled crab monster called a Mi-Go to go after H.P. and Nikola,  We get to see science and magic work together as the two attempt to fight off the creature.  After the creature takes the life of H.P. Lovecraft, dear old mommy resurrects him in front of Tesla.  Tesla has no clue what is going on at this point but knows that he must go on to find Amelia Earhardt so he sticks with H.P.

Our heroes head to Brown University to see one of Lovecraft's old professors.  They are in search of the Necronomicon, a mystical book written by the mad Arab, Abdul Alhazred.  After speaking with the professor(who had no interest in talking to the pushy Lovecraft), Tesla and Lovecraft find out the Necronomicon was sold and is awaiting restoration at the Athenaeum Library.

Tesla, who is now fed up with Lovecraft's rude behavior, decides he will part ways with Lovecraft.  In two different ways, both decide to break into Athenaeum Library to steal the Necronomicon.  Tesla and Lovecraft arrive in the room at the same time but there's a surprise when they arrive.

Okay, so this blog has some spoilers but I didn't want to just give you a yay or nay review.  Of course it's a yes.  It's a fun series and John Reilly, Tom Rogers and Dexter Weeks are putting together something you can pick up and read and enjoy.

Comic Book Review - Herald: Lovecraft & Tesla - Issue 1 - Action Lab Comics

Nikola Tesla is investigating the mysterious disappearance of Amelia Earhardt.  Feeling that this is more than what it seems, Tesla goes to someone who is believed to be somewhat of an expert in happenings that are out of the ordinary; H.P. Lovecraft.

While the story feels a bit rushed, I kinda get it.  We are dealing with unbelievable circumstances and working with some of the most well known names in science, literature, aviation and even magic(Harry Houdini is in this as well!).  All in all, this is a fun book to read.  Nikola's inventions, tentacled monsters and all around a great time.

I believe this is a three issue story-arc so I understand moving the story along a bit more quickly from that aspect as well.  I'm looking forward to seeing what happens next as Tesla and Lovecraft search for answers in their adventures together.
