Binge Watcher Review: Longmire (2012-2016)

Longmire (2012-2016)
5 Seasons

Starring:
Robert Taylor, Katee Sackhoff, Lou Diamond Phillips, Cassidy Freeman, Adam Bartley, Louanne Stephens, Bailey Chase, A Martinez, Zahn McClarnon, Graham Greene, Gerald McRaney

Synopsis:
Based on the Walt Longmire mystery novels by best-selling author Craig Johnson, this contemporary crime drama stars Australian actor Robert Taylor in the title role, the charismatic and dedicated sheriff of Absaroka County, Wyo. Longmire patrols the county with a brave face and sense of humor, but deep inside he hides the pain of his wife’s recent death. With the urging of his daughter, Cady, and the help of Vic, a new female deputy, Longmire gains a new appreciation of his job and decides to run for Re-Election. He’s committed to putting is  life back together, one piece at a time, and he often calls on best friend and confidant Henry Standing Bear for support.

The Good:
The setting is what makes this show, its one of the first shows that seem to capture what is so great about the Native American community while also depicting what is so wrong with todays society. I like the feel of the small town which come across bigger than what it really is.

The Bad:
The first few season really follow the crime show cookie cutter format, not much about those season feel any different than watching CSI or Hawaii 5-0. Each week there is a new crime which needs to be solved.

Final Thoughts:
I couldn’t get enough of this show, three of the five seasons are just 10 episode each with a few more added on the additional two. It was a fast watch and worth every minute spent. Walt Longmire is a fascinating character, willing to do anything possible to get to the truth and justice even if it means breaking the rules.

The first season hovers around the death of his wife and a election race between the sheriff and his deputy. The entire time teasing what might have happened in Colorado to the man responsible for her death.

This is a must see show which started on A&E and than being moved to Netflix for the 5th season. Currently there is no news on the 6th season, however with the show ending on a Cliffhanger its just a matter of time before it is picked up.
