"Star Wars: The Last Jedi" SPOILER FILLED Review.

The resistance is scattered, the Jedi are all but extinct, the First Order is a dominating presence in the galaxy and the Skywalker family is front and center in this story which is the 8th of 9 films in the saga. So, does “Star Wars: The Last Jedi” deliver on a story that’s both fresh and familiar or should we blast this film like Alderaan? Let’s dive in and take a look in this SPOILER FILLED review.

The story, unfortunately, wasn’t paced very well. The beginning sprints to tell us who the major players in this film will be. Then it slows down while Rey and Luke are on the island together. There’s also a hacking sequence that takes place with Poe, Finn and (newly introduced) Rose where they must travel to find Maz Kanata’s special hacker on a distant planet. That entire planet sequence, by the way, felt like it was ripped right out of the “Fifth Element” movie. It’s all plot building but also it’s not because this film doesn’t conclude like the typical second of a three movie story arc. This movie ends and it almost feels like that’s the actual end and we could get 3 more films to explore where this one leaves off. Also, this film tells us that Leia knows how to use the Force more than just to communicate across the galaxy with Luke but there’s no explanation in this movie for how she’s come to wield this power. Only a musical cue that lets us know force wielding is about to happen.

Speaking of Leia… one of the worst scenes in the film involves her death, or lack there of. Carrie Fisher died in real life and people wondered, rightfully so, how that would, if it would at all, play into this story. At the very beginning of the film, the bridge of the ship she’s on is blown to bits and she’s cast into the void of space to die. I sat in my theater seat with a smile on my face because the story made sense so far and it also answered the big question, “which of the main 5 characters left will die?” And, it was answered at the very beginning which means we can enjoy the film without the worry or concern of, “WHO’S IT GONNA BE??” But then, it back tracks that decision in a very peculiar way. She doesn’t die, because, well, the Force?

Luke’s return was fantastic. However, so much screen time is wasted on his character it confused me. I don’t need to see Luke spear fish on this secluded island. Or milk an alien and then drink that milk from a thermos. Let’s move the story along. However, he had the most enjoyable moments from his introduction to the end of the film. Mark Hammil delivers on a performance that shows incredible emotional range and I couldn’t have been happier with his performance. However, the ending of the film was beyond frustrating. At the end, we see him enjoying a sunset which I took to be a metaphor for the end of his old ways and the beginning of something new, because of his conversation with Master Yoda, which was probably my favorite moment in the movie, FYI. The realization he comes to that in order to lead you must instruct and educate on success and failure was leading me to believe it would be important later on. For it is in the understanding of both, that balance is brought and fulfilled learning can be accomplished. But no. Not even close. He just dies staring at the sun. No muss. No fuss. No clean up on aisle Jedi. He just passes on into the Force. I was so upset I could’ve walked out of the theater. Leia gets to live, miraculously, without explanation, but Luke dies? Shut your face. This is ludicrous.

The writing was also a weird blending of what felt like a Marvel movie (with regards to humor) meets classic Star Wars. In fact, the opening of the movie where Poe is trying to talk with Hux pulled me out of the film. I actually thought, “This isn’t Star Wars… I’m not sure what this is right now.” There were some jokes that landed. I particularly enjoyed the first time Luke gives Rey a lesson in the force and tells her to reach out. That did get an audible laugh from me. However, that didn’t feel like Star Wars as much as it could’ve been a joke in the British sit-com, “The I.T. Crowd.” I imagine that dialogue would’ve been played out by the characters Roy and Jen. Star Wars, as a franchise, has always been more serious and dire. The characters that bring humor do so naturally because it’s built into the construct of who that character is. Again, this felt like an odd blending of forced and natural humor. Finn and Rose had some great natural comedic moments because I believed that their characters would do and say certain things. Also, Benecio Del Toro plays a hacker named D.J. who is basically a tech mercenary. His allegiance is to money and not a particular side. While his character is very minor it did elevate the tension of the film towards the end of the second act. Also, since this paragraph is about the comedic moments, the manner in which he spoke reminded me of the guy who’s hit by lighting 66 times in the movie, “The Great Outdoors.” His stutter really took me out of the film because I kept laughing at humorous moments from “the Great Outdoors.” However, it’s believable that his character might stutter if he’s been electrocuted so many times from hacking various items, ships, etc.

Snoke is completely useless. Another major frustration for me. He’s built up in “The Force Awakens” and this film until he’s easily sliced in half. We have so much story building with Snoke and Kylo. As Yoda said in “Star Wars: Phantom Menace”, “Always two there are, no more, no less. A master and an apprentice.” So, by killing Snoke, now there are not two. It all feels thrown away because he’s killed. Also, there’s still no explanation on how Snoke got to Kylo Ren while he was training at the Jedi Temple with Luke. The story just keeps mentioning that it was Snoke who convinced Ben Solo to become Kylo Ren. We don’t know how… still… after two movies… and now Snoke is dead.

The biggest positive for me was the writing. Stay with me. This film is unbalanced which makes this a difficult review to give. There are a few films that have an altered structure for telling the story. Instead of Act 1, 2 and 3, we get Act 1, 2, 3.1 and 3.2. Minority Report is an example of a movie that felt like it was ending but kept going just a little bit longer to give us more and to really give a strong ending. That was this film. While I hated the fact Luke dies and Leia lives, the ending works in this story. And because of this ending, we get an incredible lightsaber battle which has another great lightsaber battle just before it. Plus, there are some awesome spaceship explosions in this film. One of which is done very creatively and, in both viewings, got an audible *gasp* from the audience.

“Star Wars: The Last Jedi” is in your local theater now! I’m recommending a big screen viewing. It’s a really great looking film. While the story doesn’t deliver 100% it’s still worth your time and hard earned dollars. There’s some big writing issues for me in this story but the overall movie works.  Also, I’m still trying to decide who has the best single line in the film. Is it Luke when he’s speaking to Rey and then again when he is speaking to Kylo? Or is it Rose, when she’s speaking with Finn about how the resistance/rebellion will win after having saved his life. Go see this movie!!

Rogue One: A Star Wars Story - Box Office Review

This is the 8th film in the Star Wars Franchise. In typical Star Wars fashion, this film was made out of order of the rest of the series. First, we received episode 4 in 1977 (A New Hope) followed by episode 5 in 1980 (Empire Strikes Back) and then Episode 6 in 1983 (Return of the Jedi). Then, in 1999 we got episode 1 (Phantom Menace), episode 2 in 2002 (Attack of the Clones) and concluding with episode 3 in 2005 (Revenge of the Sith). Now we jump to current time and we get Episode 7 in 2015 (The Force Awakens) and finally in 2016 we get a film that falls between Revenge of the Sith in 2005 and A New Hope in 1977. So let’s dive in a take a look at “Rogue One: A Star Wars Story” in this box office review.

I’m sure you’re wondering why I was used so many dates for the introduction. We’ll get to that, don’t worry. Right now we’ll look at some of the characters and why they worked or did not work in my opinion. First let’s look at the 2 main characters, Jyn Erso (Felicity Jones) and Orson Krennic (Ben Mendelsohn). These two characters both worked as good and bad leads. I felt that I got more from Mendelsohn’s performance as I believed every bit of why his demise was destined to occur. His character had significant weakness in that he just wanted to be part of the Emperors inner circle but he lacked the spine to do what was necessary to get there, from a Sith point of view. Jyn Erso felt a bit two dimensional as we get to see her back story and motivation but her overall delivery left something to be desired for me personally. I enjoyed her character but I believe she could’ve given more if pushed to give more.

Next we have a new band of resistance hero’s. Four characters, a Captain, his droid, a blind force sensitive warrior monk and his back up who carries a massive gun. Out of these four, it was Captain Cassian Andor (Diego Luna) who stole the entire film for me. We first meet him on a planet trying to locate a fellow resistance fighter who needs transport and has updates on the new potential deadly weapon the Empire is working on. It’s in this scene we see how far Cassian is willing to go for the rebellion and I was immediately invested in his character. I couldn’t believe he shot the guy he came to save because survival called for it. From there we learn how long his character has been fighting the empire and why this is more than just a war, it’s life for him. I know several people loved K2S0 but shortly into the film I realized that this new droid was a robotic replica of “Dr. Sheldon Cooper” from the hit TV show “Big Bang Theory.” This didn’t lessen my enjoyment of his character but I couldn’t invest myself into this character because Sheldon shouldn’t be in Star Wars. Also, Chirrup Imwe played by martial arts expert Donnie Yen fell flat for me. His character felt like a super spiritual “Daredevil” from Marvel comics/Netflix. The film even has one scene that could’ve been stolen from the Netflix show Daredevil where Yen is using his hyper sensitive hearing to visual the battle that is about to ensue. I enjoyed his character also but like K2S0 I saw a similarity to another popular character and I couldn’t invest.

Ok, so the story is as what one would expect being that it takes place immediately before “A New Hope.” The rebels steal the plans for the death star but this film is based on “the how” of that achievement. I saw this film twice to better understand the story. My first viewing I walked out of the theater terribly confused to what story I just watched. In my mind, the story would introduce new characters in Act 1, the plans would be stolen in Act 2, Darth Vader would be on the hunt for the plans and the rebels in Act 3. Nope. I was completely wrong. So the first time I saw it I was waiting the entire film for Darth Vader to be Darth Vader, like he was in the final 10 minutes of the film. So I walked back into the theater a few nights later with a friend who hadn’t seen it and I watched it a second time, except I knew what the story would entail, thus allowing me to focus more on the story and not why Darth Vader wasn’t being Darth Vader.

Overall, I enjoyed the story and the ending is more poetic than if Darth Vader was to meet my unexplainable expectation. We see Krennic die from the very death machine he was in charge of building. This was poetry in motion. I actually loved it after my second viewing. I still wanted more Darth Vader but the last 10 minutes gave us a pretty good showing and helped build on Vader’s importance and power in the Empire. Now going back and re-watching “A New Hope” it’s clear that the power line goes as follows, the Emperor, Tarkin/Vader. Similarly to how “Force Awakens” has Snoke, Hux/Renn which we can argue at length over who stole from who. Yes, A New Hope came first but it isn’t until Rogue One that the power triangle is established between Jedi Master/ Imperial Officer/Jedi… or is it? The third act of this film also has one of the best looking battle scenes I’ve watched this year on the big screen. The war that breaks out on that beautiful island paradise planet was spectacular. Sure the film starts off a little slow but it gains momentum quickly enough and ends with a battle royal that is unmatched on screen this year. I loved the third act of this film so much.

Rogue One: A Star Wars Story” is in theaters now! I definitely recommend you get out and see this film. The attention to detail that this film captures is unprecedented. The time line I laid out as the introduction shows that this film is the precursor to a film made in 1977 and the costume design, space ship design, characters and even weapons share continuity. I was blown away. This film was made 39 years after the very first film and it finishes looking exactly like the 1977 movie. The attention to detail alone demands you see this on the big screen. Aside from that, this is a truly entertaining film and it looks incredible on the big screen. Plus, it’s Star Wars people! Go see this film on the big screen and may the force be with you.

Comic Book Review: Han Solo #1 - Marvel Comics (2016)

Written by Marjorie Liu
Art by Mark Brooks
Colors by Sonia Oback

Han Solo isn't having his best luck as a smuggler.  The Rebellion seems to recognize this and actively pursues the service of Han Solo, or rather his ship the Millennium Falcon for a race that is well known throughout the galaxy.

Marvel Comics continues their impressive run on comic books based on the Star Wars films.  This book takes place, much like the Star Wars and Darth Vader comic books, after A New Hope and before The Empire Strikes Back.  Marjorie Liu does an incredible job writing this first installment.  Han and Leia's interactions are pretty spot on as far as what you would expect both characters to say within the situations they are put in.  I like that the Millennium Falcon continues to be its own character within the world of Star Wars.

Mark Brooks is an incredible artist and his work here shows it.  The faces are key to these issues and Brooks nails it.  Sonia Oback's colors look wonderful as well.

For those of you who enjoy the Star Wars films, I'd highly recommend the comic books.  I hear the voices of the characters in my head because the writing is fantastic and the art has thus far been phenomenal.  I was fortunate enough to receive the variant cover to this comic book in the June 2016 Zwaag Bag subscription service.  The cover looks like the toys I used to get when I was young.  How cool would it be to get an old Han Solo on card like this?  You can read my reviews of Zwaag Bag on HelloSubscription.com

Comic Book Review: Poe Dameron #2 - Marvel Comics (2016)

Book I, Part II
"Black Squadron"
Written by Charles Soule
Art by Phil Noto

The First Order are on the hunt for Poe Dameron and are on the verge of finding his whereabouts.  We also get to learn more about Agent Terex, who leads the ground troops looking for Poe Dameron.

Issue two is a nice follow up to issue one.  We get a few pages featuring Agent Terex, the person leading the hunt for Poe Dameron.  We discover his feelings about the differences of the Empire and the First Order.  The action hits pretty hard at the end leaving me ready for issue three.

The art looks great.  Phil Noto gets the faces right, especially Poe Dameron.  The landscapes look really good as well.  There are a few locations in this book so Noto definitely had his work cut out for him.

Comic Book Review: Darth Vader #18 - Marvel Comics (2016)

Book III, Part III
"The Shu-Torun War"

Written by Kieron Gillen
Art by Salvador Larroca

Darth Vader appears to have been caught in a trap but that doesn't seem to phase him.  Vader must also look around him to find out who he can truly trust.

The Darth Vader series continues to impress.  I'm very much enjoying this series and Kieron Gillen is doing a fantastic job in writing.  This series shows how interesting Darth Vader is and why he is one of the greatest villains of all time.

This series takes place between "A New Hope" and "The Empire Strikes Back" and is doing wonders as far as filling in the gaps go.  I was skeptical at first, in fear of this(and the Star Wars comic sereis) being a distraction from the movies and leaving me with regret like episodes I-III did.  Luckily, Marvel put incredible writers and artists in charge of these books and Star Wars fans should rejoice in how amazing these books are.

The art looks great as always.  Salvador Larrocca is doing a wonderful job with this task.  He finds a way to evoke emotion, even though Vader and the droids he has with them are unable to show emotion.  This is truly masterful work by an artist.

What are your thoughts on Darth Vader?  Are you enjoying the Star Wars comic series'?  What would you like Maskerpiece Theatre to review next?  Please respond in the comment section below or contact us on Twitter: @maskedblogster or @MPTheatre2015

Comic Book Review: Star Wars #17 - Marvel Comics (2016)

Book IV, Part II
"Rebel Jail"

Written by Jason Aaron
Art by Leinil Francis Yu

Sunspot Prison has been taken over leaving Princess Leia and Sana Starros together to team up to try and take it over while keeping their star prisoner, Dr. Aphra, safe.  Meanwhile on the Smugglers Moon, Nar Shaddaa, Luke Skywalker and Han Solo are trying to hustle some money together.

Jason Aaron continues to write brilliant stories for the Star Wars series.  Each book has meaning and leaves you with just enough to keep you coming back for more.  I particularly liked the job Luke Skywalker and Han Solo took.  It now makes sense why, when Princess Leia goes into her insulting tirade in "The Empire Strikes Back," Han is really only offended by being called scruffy.

Leinil Francis Yu is the artist for this wonderful looking book.  It's always a pleasure to read a comic when great stories are coupled with great art.

Comic Book Review: Poe Dameron #1 - Marvel Comics (2016)

"Black Squadron"
Book I, Part I

Written by Charles Soule
Art by Phil Noto

Poe Dameron is the greatest pilot in the galaxy and General Leia Organna has sent him on a mission to find Lor San Tekka.  Lor San Tekka may be the only person who may know the whereabouts of General Organna's brother, Luke Skywalker.  Poe Dameron puts together a team and this adventure is on it's way.

I really enjoyed the start of this book.  This series leads into the beginning of Star Wars: The Force Awakens movie, where Poe Dameron meets Lor San Tekka.  For those of you that like a complete story, check this book series out.  Charles Soule is an incredible writer and he really captures the essence of Poe Dameron as every line, I felt like I actually heard his voice.  You also get BB-8 and Soule finds a way to make the actions and sound effects feel like you're watching and hearing the little droid.

Phil Noto's art compliments Soule's writing remarkably well.  The facial expressions and the overall look of Poe Dameron looks just like Oscar Isaac, the actor who plays him.  Leia and the rest of the cast of this book look spectacular as well the planets and ships throughout the book.

"Sabotage"
Chris Eliopoulos
Jordie Bellaire

Poe Dameron #1 also came with a mini story at the end.  BB-8 helps two individuals find each other in a way only BB-8 would do.

This was a fun little story.  BB-8 playing matchmaker while looking like a pest was really quite clever.  I liked the very cartoon-like look as it fits the light-hearted story.

Comic Book Review: Star Wars #16 - Marvel Comics(2016)

"Rebel Jail"

Written by Jason Aaron
Art by Leinil Yu

Dr. Aphra is being transported to a secret Alliance prison by Princess Leia and Sana.  Luke Skywalker and Han Solo are in charge of procuring supplies and Han has a plan to get more than originally planned.

I was a bit surprised at how much Aphra shoots her mouth off about being with Darth Vader as their work together is supposed to be kept a secret from the Empire.  A prison seems like the worst place to tell secrets.

I like the conversation between Sana and Princess Leia.  Leia believes in doing things the right way.  No torture or other nefarious methods that the Empire may employ.  Sana seems to know more about Dr. Aphra and she feels the Rebel Alliance should do whatever they can to get information out of her.
Luke Skywalker and Han Solo have some troubles of their own.  Those troubles should lead us into some new adventures in the next issue.

Comic Book Review: Star Wars #15 - Marvel Comics (2016)

Written by Jason Aaron
Art by Mike Mayhew

Luke Skywalker is in possession on Obi-Wan Kenobi's journal.  This book chronicles a time when Luke was young and how Obi-Wan would protect him without Luke ever knowing.

I really enjoyed the change of pace with the Star Wars comic book this month.  Coming off the terrific Vader Down story line, it was nice to read a one off story that still sheds some backstory light on some of our favorite characters.

We get to see Obi-Wan not as content as one might think being a hermit.  We also get to see a young Luke Skywalker and delving into his psyche more.  We are treated with the fact that even at a young age, Luke wants more from life than just being a farmer on Tattooine.  Obi-Wan tries to provide that life at a distant.

Star Wars #15 makes for a great comic book, even if you haven't read issues 1-14.  As long as you have seen the movies, you will be fine following this story and I felt it was absolutely enjoyable.

Comic Book Review: Obi-Wan & Anakin - Marvel (2016)

Written by Charles Soule
Art by Marco Checchetto

Obi-Wan Kenobi and his young Padawan Anakin Skywalker are on a planet answering a call.  The planet was supposedly uninhabited but they find out there is much more going on.

I was not a fan of this book.  I don't like that Obi-Wan did not meet Luke's father as a pilot.  I don't like that Jedi are frowned upon for learning at such an old age.  There really isn't much about episodes one through three that I enjoyed so getting a story that takes place between The Phantom Menace and Attack of The Clones is just not my cup of tea.  If you liked those films, maybe this comic book series is for you.

The dialogue in Obi-Wan & Anakin reads mush like how the dialogue sounds in episodes one though three.  That isn't good.  There was not much fun in those films and having Obi-Wan talk to Anakin is not enjoyable to listen to or read.  Chancellor Palpatine using his political weight to tell Mace Windu what o do was painful to read as well.

The art in this book was nice to look at.  The landscapes looked incredible and the explosions were amzing.  Unfortunately little orphan Ani is one of the characters so that detracts from everything.

I really enjoy the other Star Wars comic book series I've read from Marvel.  I was hoping the multiple comic series' and new films would be a nice way to separate themselves from these awful films.  I guess they were due for something that is Stilt-Man Award worthy.

Comic Book Review: Star Wars Annual #1 - Marvel Comics (2015)

Written by Kieron Gillen
Art by Angel Unzueta

Rebel spy Eneb Ray is on Coruscant  undercover as Tharius Demo, an Imperial officer.  He is met with a mission from Princess Leia but there is a surprise that nobody had planned on and my be the opportunity the rebels have been needing.

The first Star Wars Annual was a nice book to read.  It really has little to nothing to do with the current story lines being followed in the current Star Wars comic books other than taking place during the same timeline which is between A New Hope and The Empire Strikes Back.

Eneb Ray is not a character I'm familiar with and this was a decent introduction.  With that said, I don't think I need many more stories of him.  As said in the Young Justice cartoon, I was "whelmed" by this story.  If you want to read a one and done Star Wars story and don't mind paying $4.99 for it, pick it up.

Comic Book Review: Darth Vader Annual #1 - Marvel Comics (2015)

Written by Kieron Gillen
Art by Leinil Yu

Darth Vader travels to Shu-torun to ensure frther cooperation with the Empire.  It seems there may be more on the mind of the king of Shu-torun than Vader may know.

Kieron Gillen writes a good Darth Vader story in the first Annual.  It showcases what makes Darth Vader one of the greatest bad guys of all time.  Leinil Yu's art is excellent and very pleasing to look at throughout the book.

The $4.99 price tag is a bit much for a story unto itself.  It's one story and I don't know that it will impact the Darth Vader regular series.  I more than likely would have passed on this book had I really thought about it.

What are your thoughts on the Darth Vader comic books?  Are there any other comic books you think the writers at Maskerpiece Theatre should be reviewing?  Please leave your comments below.

Comic Book Review: Darth Vader #14 - Marvel Comics (2015)

Written by Kieron Gillen
Art by Salvador Larocca

Vader Down: Part 4 of 6
Princess Leia is face to face with Darth Vader.  Han Solo, Luke Skywalker and R2-D2 are heading to the Millennium Falcon as they feel they have successfully defeated Dr. Aphra and her droids.

Dr. Aphra is down but not out.  She had called for back up and that back up arrives.  Han Solo and Chewbacca stay to deal with Aphra's ally and Luke goes to save Leia from her suicidal plan.

Just when you think everything is coming together, we get another wild card thrown into the mix on the last page cliffhanger.  Marvel is on the top of their game with this writing force.  Kieron Gillen is writing so well with the Darth Vader series and it blends seamlessly with Json Aaron's Star Wars series.

Comic Book Review: Darth Vader #13 - Marvel Comics (2015)

Written by Kieron Gillen
Art by Salvador Larroca

Vader Down: Part 2 of 6
Darth Vader is under attack after his ship was brought down on the planet Vragos Vos.  The rebels, despite the numbers, do not seem to be much of a match for the Sith Lord.  Han Solo and Princess Leia disagree about where priorities should be.  Leia remembers what happened to her home planet of Alderaan and Han's loyalties are tied to Luke.  Luke finds he and R2-D2 have crash landed near an old Jedi temple.  Aphra and her droids makes their way to Vragos Vos.

The Star Wars/Darth Vader series continues to wow me.  The intertwining stories that are so separate yet woven together is an absolute joy to read.  In the Vader Down #1 review, I was hoping there would be interactions with the characters from Darth Vader's comic book series and the characters from the Star Wars books.  At the end, we get just that!

***Cue the speculation of Aphra as Rey's mother.***

Okay, put down your light sabers, that's a blog and/or podcast for a different day.  We are only in part two of the Vader Down story line and it's been nothing but action and suspense.  Many of the comic book events that I read are a lot of build up and then action at the end.  Not so with Star Wars.  Action, a little more action, comical bantering and then more action.  Grab some popcorn but keep your buttery fingers off the pages.  You're in for a wild ride!

Comic Book Review: Vader Down #1 - Marvel Comics (2015)

Written by Jason Aaron
Art by Mike Deodato

Darth Vader is on his way to Vragos Vos to find Luke Skywalker.  Once there, he meets a rebel fleet and takes them on by himself.

The Darth Vader series has been one of my favorite comic book series going and now it has moved into the Star Wars series as well.  Vader Down is the beginning to the ultimate six issue tie-in.  I know I normally complain about any comic book that is over $3.99 in price.  This doesn't seem to be an ongoing title so I'll forgive the one-off ridiculous price.

Seeing Vader taking on a fleet of rebel X-Wing fighters was awesome and his eventual take down was remarkable.  The entire rebel army on Vragos Vos get word that Vader is down and Princess Leia sends everyone after him.  You can imagine how Han Solo feels about this.

Luke is down as well and it should be interesting to see if/when he and Vader cross paths. I'm also looking forward to seeing other characters from each book such as  Aphra, BeeTee and Triple Zero from Darth Vader's book interacting with Han Solo, Princess Leia, C-3PO and R2-D2 from the Star Wars books.

What are your thoughts on Vader Down?  How are you liking the Star Wars comic books?  What other comic book series' would you like the Maskerpiece Theatre squad to review?

Comic Book Review: Star Wars #12 - Marvel Comics (2015)

Written by Jason Aaron
Art by Stuart Immonen

On the smuggler's moon of Nar Shadaa, Luke is in Grakkus the Hutt's gladiator arena against the monster known as Kongo the Disembowler.  Chewbacca and C-3PO are on the planet as well but have been embroiled in a fight a
gainst a bounty hunter named Dengar.  Han Solo, Princess Leia and Han's "wife" Sana have just arrived onto the infamous moon and see what is happening with Chewie, C-3PO and Dengar.  We also find out there's more to the Gamemaster than anyone had originally imagined.

Luke is in a fight for his life but the odds quickly change into his favor.  Imperial forces are raiding Grakkus the Hutt's arena and Luke's allies are on the way.  There's so much going on all at once, it's tough to type up a review.  Kudos to Jason Aaron for crafting such an awesome tale.  Twelve issues in and the action has been incredible.

I apparently don't know too much about how EMPs impact the Star Wars universe.  I guess the electronics target blasters, communicators and shock collars.  Light sabers and droids are fine, so that works out well for our heroes.  It was also kind of fun seeing Chewbacca and Princess Leia weilding the light sabers as well.

I like the direction of the Gamemaster.  He is more than just a trainer and it looks like we will see plenty more of him.  He looks a bit like a professional wrestler with an Assassins Creed gimmick but it still seems to work.

I absolutely love this series.  Never a dull moment and Jason Aaron is using dialogue that makes you feel like you actually hear the characters' voices.  That, coupled with Stuart Immonen's amazing artwork, has made this a monthly must-buy.

  • "If the moral compass created by your past didn't exist, who would you become? If you had no one to tell you who you were, who would you think you are?"

  • the writers for Flash always do a fantastic job of never drawing story’s out past what is necessary. This is definitely the case for this episode.”

  • First lets just say great Mid Season Finale, the type which makes you wish this show was a Netflix property and that you didn’t have to wait a month and half to see where it was going to lead.”

  • Wentworth Miller may be the best at playing Captian Cold but the original Trickster Mark Hamill is still perfect for the role of James Jesse.”

  • Every episode this season has been on point, much improved and more enjoyable. Surprisingly this may be the best season yet of Arrow”

  • This was another great episode and I am loving the crossovers. This DC Television Universe is by far the best and in my opinion is more enjoyable than what we get with Marvel.”

  • I love a good capture and escape type of story.  This is exactly that and I especially love it when science and a bit of creative trickery is used.”

  • “It's a great movie and highly recommended.  The theater experience makes it even better as you hear the cheers, oohs and ahhs.”

  • Matt Ryan once again nailed his performance and gave us the Constantine we all want.”
