Arrow Review: Season 5 Episode 6 "So It Begins"

“So It Begins”

Synopsis:

When Prometheus ups his killing spree, Oliver searches for connections between the Victims. Felicity and Curtis discover the victims have a mysterious Link to Oliver’s past and this new secret could upend his new team. Meanwhile, Thea has a Heart-To-Heart with Lance, and Felicity considers telling Malone the truth about her work.

Final Thoughts:

With the 6th episode of the season, Prometheus has now taken center stage. With a need to get the attention of Green Arrow and his team, Prometheus begins to attack random individuals that give clues to Oliver about his past exploits as the Hood. This new information begins to drive a wedge between the new recruits and the old team. Everything about this story has been great, I really love how they are slowly brining along Prometheus. We don’t need the big reveal right now and the writers seem to know that, playing the guessing game and even having the end of the episode point toward Lance just make this story that much greater. The only criticism I really have is the continuing issues with the new recruits, I am and I have seen many fans complain about this, the recruits just need to stop complaining already and start working as a team.

Speaking about Quentin Lance, the under used character finally had a little intrigue attached to him this episode with the tie to prometheus. It’s really the only downside to the entire season thus far, the under use of Paul Blackthorne who still doesn’t have much of a story other than the drinking and this growing father-daughter type bond with Thea. Hopefully the second half of the season see his character begin to be used more to his potential.

Finally lets talk about Felicity, the darling of the CW DC Universe just 2 years ago, the same character which took a major fall in the eyes of most fans seems to be back on track. With that being said, I am starting to get tired of all the Negative comments relating to her character. I was just as frustrated with her through most of the last two season, but the character has really gone back to her origins. And I for one am really enjoying it. As for her relationship with Malone, I am not sure how this will play into the remainder of the season. It seems like there is a continuing tease that she will go back to Oliver, I am more interested in how Malone fits in going forward.

Arrow Review: Season 5 Episode 5 "Human Target"

“Human Target”

Synopsis:

When Tobias Church captures and tortures one of Oliver’s new recruits, Oliver must turn to an old friend, Christopher Chance AKA The Human Target, for help. Meanwhile, Felicity’s worlds collide when Detective Malone joins the ACU

Final Thoughts:

With Wild Dog captured and being tortured, Oliver and team go to the rescue, once recovered, Oliver learns that Rene couldn’t hold out any longer and told Church who the Green Arrow really is. The remaining of the episode sees Rene working with Diggle in order to learn more and obviously give that big brother advice that can only come from Diggle.

With Oliver’s life now on the line as Mayor, its up to him and the team to put in place a plan to stop Church. This is were we are finally introduced to Christopher Chance, the Human Target. We learn that these two also met before in Russia through the flashbacks. 

After Church is captured, we see what happens when someone disobeyed Prometheus, as the last scene of the episode shows prometheus attacking the police transport and finally killing Church. This was a fast end to church but makes sense as we are reaching the final weeks of the first half of the season. Depending on how many more episode there are, we should we should start getting more clues to who is under the mask.

The 5th episode of the season played perfectly, it was the type of build to the death of Church which was deserved. Do I wish there was more time, yes. But considering where we are in the season and with the big crossover between shows happening soon, it makes sense to end so soon.

Arrow Review: Season 5 Episode 4 "Penance"

Synopsis:

Oliver and Lyla team up on a secret mission for Diggle. Felicity finds out and disapproves of the plan and opts to stay behind. When Tobias Church launches a deadly assault against the city, Felicity must decide if she wants to send the recruits out sans the Green Arrow.

Final Thoughts:

I feel like I might be in the minority in the sentiment that Arrow’s 5th season has been solid if not one of the better seasons of the show through the first 4 episodes. The one consensus that I think I share with most is that each episode this season is truly getting better. “Penance” really told a complete and solid story where each member of Team Arrow had solid character growth. What is making this season work right now is that each story arc currently seems to be staying within each episode, yes there is some flowing stories like the young new team continuing learning curve but this not only is working but should be expected. If there was one fix the creators of Arrow should make to the show it would have to be the Flash backs. I’ve been a strong supporter the past 4 season of this story telling, however with the 5th season started I am finding little reason for this to continue and feel like the time used for the Flashbacks could have greater impact on the current storyline.

The 4th episode of the season see’s Oliver working with Lyla to rescue Diggle from military prison, while the rest of the team works to stop Tibias Church from attacking Adrien Chase and freeing Sergio from custody. Before the team sans Oliver, take on Church, Felicity works one fixing the issue between herself and Rory, the nice thing about this is season each character seems to have a understanding and growth to expect each member of the team as they are and it makes each issue that comes up more really for the hero’s they are. 

The last minutes of the episode show that Church has Rene and are going to try to break that spirit he has. Now that he is captured team Arrow will need to work to rescue Wild Dog. Obviously the results will be dire for Oliver, but will this be the end of Tobias Church? We know that he wants the Green Arrow dead, but what happens when he tries to accomplish this feat? Will Prometheus have something to say about this?

With Diggle back and more than likely going the team as spartan again, this should add an additional dynamic to the team, with what seems to be his acceptance Oliver we should be getting more of the Oliver/Diggle Dynamic which we saw in the first two season.

Arrow Review: Season 5 Episode 3 "A Matter of Trust"

Synopsis:

Now that Oliver has his new team, they are ready to hit the streets but Oliver doesn’t feel they are ready. Headstrong Wild Dog defies the Green Arrow’s orders and sets out on his own after a new drug dealer, Derek Sampson, who is terrorizing Star City. Sampson proves more powerful than Wild Dog and its up to the Green Arrow to go head to head with Runnels to save his teammate.

Final Thoughts: 

Another solid episode from Arrow, this has proved to be a higher quality season than expected. I’m glad that we have the return of familiar faces in Diggle and Lyla. We get the guest star of Cody Rhodes, who faced Stephen Amell at wrestlemania. I also loved the play on Cody Rhodes WWE character Stardust, which was the name of the drug being pushed in Star City.

If you were searching for any issues with the episode, it seems like the writers have found themselves in a little bit of a rut. Each week it seems like Oliver isn’t progressing as a character as fast you would like. There is a weekly repeating cycle of Oliver is wrong about something, Felicity tells Oliver he is wrong, Some devastating event occurs, Oliver realizes he is wrong and informs everyone he is. I think there is a change that needs to happen. I would like to see Oliver learn and become more of a team member.

As for the new team, we finally get to see them in action together, which means we get to see Curtis Holt in action. I like the name tease of Mister Terrific and can’t wait to see how his character progresses into the hero we know from the comics. Wild Dog seems to be a wild card within the group and looks to be a issue waiting to happen, while I still haven’t figured out Evelyn Sharp. She is like the new Robin to Batman, you know how they keep getting younger and younger.

Legends of Tomorrow Review: Season 2 Episode 1 "Out of Time"

Synopsis:

After the defeat of the immortal villain Vandal Savage and the exposure of the corrupt Time Masters, a new threat emerges. Dr. Nate Heywood, an unconventional and charming historian, is thrust into the action. After making a shocking discovery, Nate seeks out Oliver Queen for help in finding the scattered Legends. Once reunited, the Legends continue their new mission to protect the timeline from temporal aberrations - unusual changes to history that spawn potentially catastrophic consequences. Their first stop is 1942, to protect Albert Einstein from being kidnapped before the Nazis destroy New York City with a nuclear bomb. Meanwhile, Ray notices that Sara has a mission of her own, which leads them both to face her nemesis, Damien Darhk.

Final Thoughts:

My first thought when watching the first few minutes of the season premiere of Legends of Tomorrow was…….Is there anyone that doesn’t know Oliver Queens secret identity? It really has to be the worse kept secret ever. 

So the first episode came with a few changes, when both Dr. Haywood and Oliver found the waverider at the bottom of the ocean,  they only found Rory somehow suspended in time. after coming out of his extended hibernation, he begins to tell the story of the events that took place. This is when we learn that Rip Hunter has disappeared and the rest of the team was scattered across time. 

So most of the episode was rehashing the events which took place prior to the waverider colliding with a nuclear bomb. We also got our first glimpses of our villains for the upcoming season. One being Damian Darhk and the other being the Reverse-Flash. This is an interesting development and as excited as I am to see the Reverse-Flash back, I am somewhat disappointed it won’t be part of The Flash. But that is a just a small disappointment, what is intriguing is how they will use Rip Hunter and the Justice Society of America.

As for the legends and their time jumping, it seems like they have messed with history by interfering and causing changes. Its really interesting since we now have two shows with in the DC shared universe which are causing changes to the timeline. This ultimately should have some effect in the future.

The CW was four for four and did not disappoint with any of their DC properties, each show had solid episodes but Legends of Tomorrow felt like what the show is meant to be….FUN! So make sure to watch and Let us know your thought of the season premier and leave your comments below.

Arrow Review: Season 5 Episode 2 "The Recruits"

Synopsis:

Oliver recruits Curtis, Wild Dog and Evelyn Sharp for his team, but his training methods prove to be too much for some to handle. In flashbacks, Oliver continues his initiation into the Bratva.

Final Thoughts:

Two weeks in a row Arrow has produced quality Television. In this episode Oliver is trying to set up a free clinic for Star City, during the opening we are introduce to this weeks bad guy who ultimalty turns into the good guy Ragman. This turn happens when a show down with Tobias Church. Before the end of the episode we once again are treated to the Dark Archer. Also throughout the episode we see the training of the new recruits, obviously since this is Arrow, the training doesn’t go as well and lead to Oliver needing to apologies and reveal his true identity to gain the teams trust.

A few thoughts i had on the episode, the recruits came off as whiny and quitters. I think there has to be more trust built in just by training with a man who has been doing the vigilantey thing for many years. If this keeps going this way with no quick resolution the fans will loose interest in these characters. Another thought came to mind when watching this episode, the daytime scenes really change the feeling of the show. I have to say I really enjoyed them as it brought a more up beat feeling to a normally doom and gloom show.

With the inclusion of the Dark Archer AKA Prometheus, there is a new man out to get the Green Arrow. From casting reveals this past summer, we know there is some sort of personal connection between the two. Does anyone else think Tommy Merlin? It actually makes sense especially with the death of the woman he loved Laurel and before anyone says a thing about Tommy dying, really its not the first time someone has been brought back to life. 

Once again it was a great episode and in many ways it was especially nice to see a less drama filled Felicity, she even got back to make some of her more silly jokes which the was the reason fans of the show fell in love with her. As for the show itself it was nice to see the fighting sequences become much smother since last year and the writing in general was much tighter.

Arrow Review: Season 5 Episode 1 "Legacy"

“Legacy”

Synopsis:

After Laurel’s death and the departure of both Diggle and Thea From Team Arrow, Oliver takes to the streets solo to protect Star City’s citizens as the Green Arrow.

Final Thoughts:

First episode from season 5 is here and we pick off with Team Arrow only consisting of Oliver and Felicity. Most of the episode is Felicity trying to convince Oliver that Diggle and Thea won’t be back and that he needs to find new recruits to join the team. The funny thing about this episode, it was the first time in awhile that I didn’t mind Felicity. It worked and didn’t feel forced on us like in past seasons. Sure this is still a CW show and we will ultimately get the relationship drama between the two again, but for the time being it was a nice change of pace.

As for the rest of the episode, there was some similarities between this episode and season two were Oliver actually has another story arc to go along with fighting bad guys and felicity. In this episode we see the dilemma that Oliver faces being the new Mayor of Star City and still trying to keep its citizens safe by running around at night as The Green Arrow. This just might be the most interesting story they had for Oliver since that season two, and it also is giving the character outside conflicts to deal with. Hopefully season 5 continues with these changes and doesn’t rely to heavily on the Felicity/Oliver on and off again relationship to deliver. 

Another aspect of this episode and we will definetely seem more of in the near future is the Recruits. New blood was needed to keep this show interesting, the writes for four season have relied to heavily on the same four people to keep delivering on tired story arcs. With new character to add to the mix at the very least will add new drama to the mix. I am also excited to see that Curtis Holt will be joining Team Arrow. Hopefully soon we will see Mister Terrific.

I feel this was a strong start leading to a fresh season, as long as we don’t get to much of the past Arrow season we should be good, and I truly believe this could be a great season.

Arrow Review: Season 4 Episode 18 "Eleven-Fifty-Nine"

“Eleven-Fifty-Nine”

Synopsis:

Oliver and Diggle learn that Merlyn is going to try to break Darhk out of prison. Meanwhile, Laurel gets a surprising offer and Felicity has a heart-to-heart talk with Curtis.

Review:

The Previous episode left off with Andy meeting with Malcolm, this episode starts off with Andy telling Diggle the plan to help Darhk escape Iron Hights. While Diggle and Oliver are out following up on Andy’s information, Malcolm and a few loyal members of the League break into the Arrow Hide out and steal the idol which hold the powers of Darhk.

The team is tracking Malcolm to catch him prior to him handing the Idol over the Darhk, follow to a warehouse were Any takes a arrow for Oliver. Even with this act, Oliver still questions Andy’s Loyalties.

The Team is ultimately called into action when Darhk takes the guards hostage in his cell block, once the team is in Andy turns on them and hands the gem that powers the idol over to Darhk.  With Darhk fully powered up, he uses his powers and in the end Laurel pays the ultimate price. 

Final Thoughts:

We finally know who is in the grave, Laurel Lance. This is a surprise twist which I did not see coming. Not sure how I feel about this, for the first time since the beginning of season 1, I was starting to warm to Laurel. She really started to become the Black Canary and was the perfect addition to the Team. 

Now there is some interesting twist and turns which could take place and allow Laurel to come back. Technically Sara is still bouncing around time on Legends of Tomorrow. If she come back early enough the timeline could reset itself, giving that the grave scene should take place in the next few episode there technically are enough episode which would allow this to happen and make sense still. I guess we will have to wait and see how this will play out.

This is a solid episode, it works because they steered away from the relationship drama and went with more action. It was also nice to have an episode with very little felicity. I am definitely looking forward to the next few episode to see what the fall out should be.

Arrow Review: Season 4 Episode 15 "Taken"

Arrow Season 4 Episode 15

“Taken”

Synopsis:

Oliver calls in his old friend for help in fighting Darhk, while Thea has a Heart to Heart talk with Malcolm.

Review:

The episode starts with Darhk informing Oliver that he has his son William, his demand for Williams return are to drop out of the Mayor race and to back his wife.

With Oliver dealing with a kidnapped son and Felicity now knowing his secrets he now needs some additional help. He calls on a friend with whom he had an Animated past with….Vixen.

With Vixen now in the fold, she informs the team that like her, Darhk must have a object which is providing him with his magical power. Team come up with a plan to save William and to take away the Damian powers. 

The episode come to an end with the team being able to destroy the token which provide the powers, William was saved and Felicity being able to walk again and giving the ring back to Oliver.

Final Thoughts.

I just love Crossovers, obviously this one is a little more obscured do to the fact its with the Animated Web Series Vixen. It non the less was just as great as most we have seen thus far. Megalyn Echilunwoke was wonderful as Mari McCabe/Vixen. Great addition to the DC television Universe. 

The episode it self provided a lot of great twists for the remainder of the season, with Darhk missing his powers its now interesting to see how he will rage havoc on Team Arrow. The episode also muddy what had seemed to be an obvious answer to who was in the grave a couple of months from now. With William and his mother safe and far away, these two obviously fall off the list. This leave the possibilities down to only Diggle, Thea or Captain Lance. With the show runners annoucing the possibility of Diggle getting a new helmet. My last two guesses would have to be Lance or Thea.

The return of Evil Malcolm might be the best thing this season has brought us, but the return of the up and down relationship between Felicity and Oliver will definitely cast a shadow over what has become an awesome season thus far.

Arrow Review: Season 4 Episode 14 "Code of Silence"

“Code of Silence”

Synopsis:

Team Arrow uncovers HIVE’s plan to take them out for good, Leading Lance to wonder if Donna is better off without him and Oliver to consider telling Felicity about his son.

Review:

With Oliver preparing for his first Debate for Mayor against Ruve Adams, Lance is attacked by members of HIVE who specialize in demolition. Team Arrow takes the fight to the demolition team, after the first two encounters with the team ending with the failure. Oliver and team learn that the next attack will be at the big debate. 

Final Thoughts:

An interesting episode of Arrow, the demolition seemed to be only place in order for the creators of Arrow to have an excuse to suite up Oliver and to provide some foreshadowing. Obviously with issues arising between Donna and Lance due to lies is directly tied to Felicity and Oliver and the fact that he has yet to tell Felicity about his son William. 

With an interesting twist for the show, it seems like the creators gave Oliver a win finally in his personal life with his debate victory of the wife of Darhk. It will be an interesting season 5 if Oliver become Mayor. 

I loved the nice little nod to Curtis Holts super hero personality of Mr Terrific when Oliver called him Terrific after coming up with some tech that may ultimately help Felicity walk again. Although i am not to sure how I feel about this possibility, it seem so soon for them to come up with a way to have her walk again.

Finally the ending, its seems now that Darhk has William, who he says they will be watch while his mother is busy. Does this ultimately mean she is in the grave? No one will truly know until we get to that episode. But it seems like all signs are pointing in that way.

Another solid episode, but ultimately only gets One Thumbs Up, as this is two episodes in a row which have had very limited Green Arrow scenes. What did you think of Episode 14? Leave your comments below.

“Sins of the Father”

Synopsis:

Oliver receives an offer from Nyssa that is hard to refuse, Meanwhile Thea continues to battle the bloodlust Malcolm steps in to help his daughter, and Laurel has a Heart to Heart talk with Nyssa.

Review:

The episode starts with Nyssa offering the lotus to save Thea, however she wants Merlins control over the league. Oliver has to come up with a way to get the lotus without the death of Nyssa or Malcolm. The initial plan falls apart after Malcolm decides that he doesn’t want to make a deal. After multiple battles between the two factions of the league, Merlin faces off with Oliver and the end result is the loss of his hand.

Nyssa, after getting the ring from Merlin decides to disband the league. This action leads to Merlin promising Oliver he will suffer. The end of the episode show Merlin meeting with Darhk and giving him the identified of the person Oliver cares for the most….William his son.

Final Thoughts:

With each passing season of Arrow, it seems that the creators find more ways to disband and kill off members of the DC Universe. First we saw the end of Deadshot, then the death of Amanda Waller, now the disbanding of the league of Assassins. At least we have The Flash, and his ability to bring these characters back to life.

Finally we get the evil Malcolm back, minus a hand. His deal with Damien Darhk seems to jump the story forward a lot and leaves us with some clues as to where the show will go. Oliver’s son will be the center point going forward, most likely driving a wedge between Oliver and Felicity. My guess is William will some how be involved with the grave scene. This will be a entertaining ride for sure.

How does the dismembering of Thea’s father ultimately effect the relationship between her and Oliver will have to be seen still, but at the very least she is now cured of the effects from the Lazarus Pitt.

The most interesting part of the episode has to be the weird ending to Felicity and her Father, it seems like a quick resolution with Felicity sending him to Prison. I am guessing there is much more to come.
